Tasker on the Atrix

What are some of the profiles you use? You don't have to give detail, just summarize what you have some of them do....

Only have 2 at the moment...one that only uses wireless when I'm in range of mine. The other mutes the phone when I'm within 1km of work, and turns things back on as soon as I'm out of that range. There's another poster on here (sorry typing from phone so can't link) who came from an iPhone 3GS who mentioned he had a bunch Tasker of profiles.

Ok, now this is something I need to figure out how to do.

also, as I'm not too familiar with the app in question, could I use this to make an icon that when clicked, would activate gps then my sport gps program?

nm, just read up on it and it sounds like I need to get this.

just to clarify, chicknlil, you are using tasker on the atrix, yes? was reading some reviews where it doesn't seem to work on some phones

I have it so it plays music when headset is plugged in. But how do I add more than one task per profile? All I can do is add another context

Oh I got one that's fairly complex now:
- headset with mic (ear buds) goes to half media volume and plays next song
- headset without mic (tape adapter in car) goes to full media volume and plays next

When unplugged both stop playing and turn media volume back to 0. I love it.

Any other recommendations?

If anybody has any idea: how do I add more than one task per profile? I'm able to add as many contexts per profile, but can't seem to add another task.

I've got my phone powered off and charging at the moment, but I believe you can tap/click on both sides...one side adds the "conditions" (I believe), and the other the "tasks" (gps on/off, wifi on/off) etc ... both sides can have multiple things.

Also...make sure to set an "exit" task for things. I couldn't figure out why my wifi task was behaving strangely ... I didn't have an exit task. I think it'll behave a lot better tomorrow.

don't the gps profiles burn the hell out of your battery?

I've only got one that specifically looks for GPS (my "arrival at work" one) ...that one was previously 2 (more or less identical) items that were time specific ... but with my work schedule being chaotic, I like that if I leave "early" that my phone will recognize it as soon as I get out of range of work.

I've shied away from tasker because of its learning curve for a long while, now. It's becoming increasingly tempting, though. I'm just worried that once I get my profiles setup the way I like that it is going to hurt my battery life. I've seen quite a few people say "i don't notice a difference" but haven't seen any actual testing.

My profiles:

1) Turns off all notifications when I go to bed.
2) When I get to work, lowers the ringer volume and turns off auto-sync.
3) When I get home, it connects to my wifi.
4) Turns on the GPS when I open Google Maps and turns it off when I exit.
5) If I sent a text message to my phone from Google Voice with the words "SOS", it will pop a notification on the phone saying that my phone may be lost or stolen, then turns on the GPS and text messages me back the coordinates of the phone

While your other profiles were very useful, this one in particular was very impressive to me.

I have mine set up to:
1. launch GPS when either car dock, beer map, foursquare, maps, navigation or places is launched and to turn it off when they exit.

2. Change the wallpaper on my phone and set to vibrate during work hours

3. Bring up a selectable list of audio applications when headphones are plugged in. (i usually use bluetooth, so this is more for input as an external player in a car etc)

-Currently thinking of more ways to automate with tasker and take over the world.

I got so freaked out at the sight of this thread! This originally began as a post. I guess the mods made it a thread of its own

hehe, I did the same. "What the hell? I didn't post in that thread! Oh, wait..."

the mod commented on the first post above. I was actually wondering if that was going to happen considering we veered off the posted topic.

That being said, for a bit more help in understanding some of these, the tasker wiki is very helpful.

I started messing around on my own and got my gps tracker to turn on gps when activated (now need to add the exit task of shutting off)

Mine are....

Headset plugged (any) - Media volume goes to 5 and upon exit, media volume goes to 0.

Incoming call - Call volume maximizes and upon exit, media volume goes to 0. (This was actually to correct a problem I had. While in the library, I'd be listening to music via headphones and sometimes, I'd receive a call and unplug them. By the time the call came to an end, I had forgotten I was listening to music and it'd start playing loudly when I hang up.)

I'm always trying to think of new things to make Tasker do, because I know it has a lot of potential and I haven't taken full advantage of it.

LOL I think it's because I kept going posting my profiles, and asking questions.

Oh and I figured out how to add multiple tasks per profile. Under edit, just click add, and it will list another task below the first.

Can you tell me how to do this or could you direct me to a profile or something? I am trying to get my phone to do the following:

when plugged into the Car Dock:
1) turn on GPS
2) turn on Bluetooth
3) turn off WiFi

When exiting the Car Doc, I want it to reverse those settings.

Am totally bewildered by Tasker :(
