Tbolt Rant - 30 day review

I can honestly say I've only experienced some of these issues once, maybe twice. I too am in NYC and have not seen issues with the network. One day, yes, but that was when there was a nationwide network outage.

I have had my phone get extremely hot and the battery drain occurs. But this happened twice, and I rebooted. I chalk it up to the phone being on for over 2 weeks without a reboot - something is bound to hang with the OS.

As for your replacement, why didn't you hold out for the Incredible 2 that supposed to land next week? Supposedly the battery life is light years better than the TB... and the only differences really are screen size, no kickstand, no 4glte, and less memory storage.

I mean, I'm a bitch, but I'm not going to rip someone's face off for giving their opinion and experience with the phone. Jeez, who peed in your cornflakes, guys?

Sorry to hear you've had a bad experience with this phone - but perhaps these folks are right (even if their choice of words is less than appropriate) and you should try a replacement device before you jump ship?
 
I have no problem having someone express their opinion. However, the OP also needs to realize that while some people HAVE experienced similar issues across the board, not everyone has. So don't label the phone "dog s**t" simply from their own experience, and expect everyone to agree. Most replies have been simple, to the point of it most likely being a problem with his phone. Obviously, if he isn't happy with the issues that came up, and doesn't feel comfortable going into a replacement of the same model, that's perfectly fine. We're simply defending that many of us have NOT had those issues, so don't lump every Tbolt into a junk pile.

At no point, however, has the OP acknowledged the possiblilty that they might have a defective device, nor had they tried another. I assume the bro-in-law must also have returned his phone for the iPhone, if these complaints are the norm for every Thunderbolt. Even though there have been people with defective phones, there are countless more who have loved the phone, had no issues, and experience none of what you have. That's just how it is. There aren't thousands of people simply lying about their obviously defective phone, just to make the OP out to be off base.

I love my phone, never had battery issues, phone hasn't gotten hot, and never had issues with data. Do I have 4G here? No. Will it be affected when I do? Of course. I have that expectation. But, for example, the NYC thing..there are plenty of people in NYC who AREN'T complaining about their 4G experiences.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion. However, we're entitled just as much, to offer ours in response. If you expect us to respect your decision and opinions, do us the same common courtesy and at least try to understand our point of view as well, and not argue with us when we point out that there might have been more at hand than simply the phone is junk.

The TB luvers will never yield to any critique of their coveted slab of plastic, metal and sand. Best to move on to your iPhone and its superior A4 chipset. It IS superior to the 8255/8655.

The five principles of the TB fanboy:

1. There are no signal problems and the radio is so perfect and stable, normal humans interfere with its reception.

2. There are no battery issues. In fact, TB users sublease excess capacity to local power companies.

3. The crippled 4gb of flash is because the TB would be too perfect and make people feel too inferior, in comparison.

4. The excess bloatware of trial apps and Blockbuster app is because users really want it and EVERYBODY prefers BB over Netflix. Yeah!

5. The chipset and radio do not run hot, but is the supreme awesomeness, radiating from the TBs aura.

Fanboys believe all five things.

Must joke, since it is just a thing, the TB.
 
You started off pretty good on your first point but went downhill in a hurry.

#2 The battery issue is well documented so it had nothing to do with HIS phone.

#4 You think because the phone is selling well that he can't make a bad review and that there is something wrong with his phone? That couldn't be anymore inaccurate. Terrible case of fanboyism. In fact, it makes no sense at all.

Lastly, Google also tracks and stores everything you do too, not just apple. CEOs admitted it.

Go to Apple. They make decent phones. Slow, boring, limited, tracked, locked, but otherwise decent.

I'm sorry but the issue he is reporting is not the normal battery drain. What he is reporting IS and issue with HIS phone. The fact that it is running so hot he can't hold it, is evidence of that. There is something not running right on his phone if he is seeing the kind of battery drain that he is reporting here.

Yes there are issues with the battery and how long it lasts, however a battery draining the way he is describing is NOT what the battery issue that people are talking about.

I'm sorry that you feel that other people trying to explain this automatically makes them a fanboy, but that isn't the case at all. The people explaining this are not fanboys, they are simply stating the facts.
 
True, since if running real hot and battery life is ridiculous short, the battery could be the culprit, or the power bridge.

The 8655 could be hosed, but CPUs tend to work or not (no in between).

Quite possibly the truest statement on here. The hotter the phone, the more awesome it is.

Even though my experience has been good so far, I do have it in the back mind that maybe I should have waited for the Incredible 2...
 
I can't see this person and his bro in law having the same exact problems at the same time. I wonder if he even has a bolt in the first place. If the device gets super hot. Why not get Verizon to replace the battery? So I am beginning to think the poster is a troll.

What's your point? The same thing can be said for all the fanboys of other phones (iphone, incredible, blackberries, palm pre etc...) You make it sound like only TB users does this. This is an Android forum for Tbolt users/enthusiasts. So of course people are going to defend it. If I went to an iphone's forum and said the iphone was dogsh*t, I would get the same response.

Oh there are fanboys/fangirls for people as well. Plenty of them on the internet. I know..it's sad, but it's just a way of life. To some degree we're all bias and favor one thing over another. Nobody want to be told that something that they own or are associated with is dogsh*t

Anyways, I'm getting off topic. I disagree with the OP. The TB is the best phone in the world!! :)

you people need to realize that there ARE going to be bad phones, but just because you got one, does not make every tb made bad. sucks that you got a bad one, but I and many others do not have any of the problems you listed

I agree with you on that, however I don't think the replies in here are even remotely in fanboy land. The OP came in with an issue that looks like he either has a rogue app, or a defective phone. He proceeded to call all TBs dogsh*t because of it.

The replies (some were harsh admittedly) were mostly explaining to him that what he is seeing is not indicitive of most TBs and could simply be a bad unit or a bad app. He didn't want to hear that and proclaimed that it was the phone overall and that all TBs are like this.

I'm sorry if pointing out the facts like I did makes me a fanboy, however I do freely admit that the TB does have it's issues. The battery life being one of them (which HTC and VZW have admited and fixed in the upcoming OTA), with that said the experience the OP had is NOT the battery life issue that everyone else talks about.

If your phone is going from 100 to 60 in mere minute in your pocket with the screen off and is hot to the touch then there is something wrong with YOUR phone.
 
Why is it that nobody can post problems with a phone without getting accused of being a troll?

Most people come online to do just that, voice their problems with the device they have to blow off steam. I've had my DX for 9 months now and it hasn't all been cake and icecream. There have been days when I also wanted to come on here and blow off steam. People shouldn't take it so personally. All electronic devices drive us crazy at times, I can hardly believe there's anyone on this board who's never pulled their hair out at one time or another dealing with a phone, computer, DVD player, stereo, etc...

Sounds to me as if the OP is bolting to the iPhone for now until an Android device comes out that he feels is worthy of his time. What's the problem with that anyway? I tend to agree that the device should be shipped to the customer with the settings adjusted for optimum battery performance. Not everyone is intuitive enough to be able to go through their phone and adjust everything to get optimum performance out of it. I've come to realize that I'm much more of a phone geek than 99% of my friends are. I just rooted and ROMed 3 of my friends EVO's over the weekend, and none of them had any clue what I was doing, or what to do with the device after I customized it for them. Most people just aren't as tuned into their devices as we here are. We are the exception, not the rule.

I don't know how many people I've told to come onto this site to find the answers for any problems they have with their phones, and NOBODY seems to have the time or interest in doing it. So I can totally see someone getting one of these who isn't as interested as I am in customizing, modding and playing around with my device, getting frusterated with it. In my opinion Google has some work to do to make Android a little more intuitive for the average user. And I suspect they are working on just that.

Personally, I love Android and really enjoy all the possibilities that comes with it. But not everyone will agree with me, doesn't make them a troll. Constructive criticism should be welcome and encouraged. If all we ever hear around here is mighty praise for which ever device we're on, then Google might start to think their OS is perfect and no longer needs any more upgrades. And I certainly wouldn't want that to happen. I feel as though there's always room for improvement. My DX is great, but that doesn't mean I don't also have a list of things I'd like to see be even better, and some things that I down right didn't like about it.

Stock batteries in most Android devices I feel are unacceptable. I realize that we the consumer are demanding faster and faster processors which comsume batteries at a faster rate. But it seems like all the OEMs put a puny battery in their devices and then offer the extended battery for an extra $50 bucks, when the extended battery should have been the stock battery in the first place. At the very least offer the phone with the extended battery in it instead of the smaller battery for maybe an extra $10 bucks instead of making those of use who want a longer lasting battery have to pay $50 bucks. I know not everyone has a problem with the stock battery, but I'd say there are enough of those who want the bigger one to warrant at least making it a choice when purchasing the device.

It shouldn't be such a heated atmosphere around here (speaking on behalf of all the subforms, not just this one) when someone has some steam to blow off. It comes with the territory.

Rants are not constructive critcism. Calling a phone dogsh*t is not constructive critism. There are many better ways to write a review and show your displeasure with a phone than ranting.
 
I don't have a problem with the OP blowing off steam, I was simply trying to point out that the problems he was having are not an issue with the TB overall as he is trying to say. The issues he was having point towards a bad unit or rogue app, and can happen on any phone. I've seen them happen on the OG Droid.

What I have an issue with is the OP making a blanket statement that all TB are dog sh*t, and then dismissing that it could be a problem with just his phone or an app by using the battery life issue that is completely different from what he described. I agree that people should be allowed to vent, but when good information and suggestions are given and just blown off because the person venting has already made up their mind that the issue is with every single TB ever made, then that person isn't venting they are simply stiring up trouble.

Also... ^^THIS... Pointing out flaws in a device is fine, however when someone points out that the flaw being reported is more then likely a defective unit and not a problem with the device overall, doesn't mean they are a fanboy. It actually means they are the opposite and looking at the situation with logic.
 
I definitely think the battery life only last about 6 or 7 hours in 4g at most. I have several people around me that confirm this. But I find that to be pretty good, new leak is definitely going to help out too. When I take my phone out of 4g it last a whole lot longer, just as long as any other smartphone I have used recently.

4g is going to take a toll and to some it isn't worth it, I have no problem with that. To me it is worth it, I think it last long enough for me and I am good with that.
 
WEll if the OP would have came in here and said hey I have a problem my phone gets burning hot and the battery drops 60% in 30 min. What could be the problem. When I posted about my 4G problems. I had no one yell at me or flame me. This guy posts keeping a phone for 30 days with a known problem and by the way he talked never called verizon or went by one of the stores. He went on about how all bolts was crap. To me thats not a poster asking for help with a problem. Thats a troll looking for a fight. Sure I even have problems with 4G but I can live with 3G out in Disney parks. It saves battery life and when I get back to my hotel I plug the phone in and turn on LTE and surf on my laptop. While in the park I used my phone heavily with the disney park app. Plenty of texts, Pictures, Videos, Calls and surf the web and I went 14 HRS and had 15% left on the battery. SO sorry if I dont believe all bolts has a bad battery life. I bet he got a bad battery. Remember those laptops that had the defective battery and would run super hot and explode? Sounds like his problem. My phone operating runs about 85 to 90F. It has never ran so hot I could fry an egg on it. my OG droid would run way hotter charging than my bolt does and runs cooler that my droid ever thought it could.

My first droid wouldnt do an update. It would download it and then reboot and just stay on the M logo. Went through CS and after about an hr they said take it back and get a new one. Its defective.

I just think the OP came up with the story of his bolt because he really wished he had the iPhone4. I just hope they fixed the antenna issue that the AT&T version had lol. Or he will be complaining of no signal over in the apple forum.

They didn't really fix it. However, the problem is a lot less noticeable on Verizon's network, than it was on AT&Ts. (Was reviewed on other sites recently, so just going on memory)

I am currently running the leaked OTA update on my phone and I can tell you that the battery life is vastly improved with the update that will be coming out to everyone soon (if you are rooted you can get the update now). There was an issue with the voltage that was being used when the phone was sleeping, the phone was pulling way to much voltage in sleep mode and was causing battery to drain quicker then it should.

+1 on the OTA or leaked OTA... battery is not bad... at least it's not any worse than my Droid Incredible... it will last through the day.
