Help teethering sprint galaxy s3 with ipad

lo_rennn

Lurker
i apologize in advance because i know this has been asked before, but i have also just wasted the last three hours of my life trying to figure this out. i don't currently have any connection to wifi (anywhere) & own an ipad 2 that only runs on wifi. i have a sprint galaxy s3. i have probably watched 15 different youtube videos & been on every forum there is. so- here's my guess. is the galaxy operating system different with every phone carrier? every video/article i read (and believe me, i read them well). quite a few places said settings> extra settings> teethering (which, in the videos i saw the option was teethering/hot spot, which it definitely does not say on mine. i managed to connect my ipad & s3 through bluetooth, but no internet. so... did i just f up, or is it an issue with my phone & provider? i did find a few places that said i'd have to root my phone, which i'm trying not to do.
& if none of that is possible, would someone mind pointing me in the direction of a good app that will send music/photos/files via bluetooth that is compatible for S3 & ipad.
thanks in advance for any help,

I think some american carriers disable the wifi hotspot function. Try the sprint all things root forum at top of this page because youll probably have to root the phone to get it working (if possible)

To use the native hotspot without rooting, you'll need to pay for the service obviously.

Or another option is using foxfi from the market to allow free wifi tethering without root.

Another option, rooting and flashing a rom to unlock the native hotspot app.

i'm a bit afraid of rooting for a few reasons: i'm a fairly thorough google learner, although not very tech savy, and i know rooting your phone voids the warranty. i have a computer that i might be able to use, but it has no wifi & runs on ubuntu operating system, so i'm a bit hesitant.
foxfi sounds like it might work, but again, i'm trying to use 3G, not wifi. i feel like i should add, too, that i'm only looking to share the connection for a short amount of time, until my cable/internet is installed.

To be fair, while i have nothing against it, if you root and use free wifi tethering that your carrier expects you (whether thats right or wrong of them) to pay extra for then losing your warranty is a small price to pay imo lol.
Anyway you can unroot and hide your tracks if you have to mate
Im not sure how Fox-fi works tbh, things are a bit easier in my country, but check it out.. maybe you dont have to be rooted

P.s, you cant share your connection via 3g/4g, your phone uses 3g/4g to send/recieve the data from your carrier and sends/recieves data to your tablet by turning itself into a wifi router

What I mean when I mentioned foxfi, it's an app that makes your device a mobile hotspot without the monthly fee.

In other words, foxfi will create a wifi network using your 3g/4g data connection for other devices.

Oh and foxfi doesn't require root either if you'd like to look into that. However when I use to use it, it every now and then disconnected itself.

If your open to using wired tether, klink, is an excellent app. It's what I currently use :)

Didnt one of the carriers try to get foxfi pulled from the playstore lol?
I have some beef with google but i respect them for not kissing up to the greedy carriers :)

I think it was vzw that had several tethering apps pulled at once point (couple years ago I think), but that didn't last long.
