If you want gingerbread right away with no sense-rooting
Gingerbread with sense- rooting (but shortly after RUU)
Sense on 2.2- both ways
And rooting over all is very handy
if you have a mac i recommend Unrevoked for the rooting process

do you want just 2.2 froyo with sense?
Install morelocales2 from the market, set English (US) or (CA) canada then uninstall morelocales2 after if you like.Is the a way to get English (United States)?
All I show now is English (United Kingdom) as the closest choice.

Hi Everyone,
I've been reading this thread since last week when I was waiting for the Telus 2.2 update, which sadly is coming in Q4 ..... I just the "adbird" post about the difference between RUU and Rooting, and I didn't know there are lots of huge differences between them and even if they are different !! I was waiting for the update from Telus, but I can't wait no more and I want to have 2.2 RIGHT NOW !! If someone can help me decide which way should I go ? I want to get gingerbread as soon as its available, can I get gingerbread with RUU or not ? do I get OTA updates with both ways from HTC ? Do I get HTC sense with both ways ? does the customization worths the rooting way or not ? If you guys can help me decide and then do the RUU or Rooting, I'd really appreciate it
help me get 2.2 today and join the fun that you guys are having right now![]()
You will get the updates faster buy doing the Ruu and not rooting, the updates come from HTC and so they will be sent to your phone as soon as they are released by HTC

Yes, there are a few ways to do this, Launcher Pro which you do not need root for (can be found on market) but cannot be used with sense (but sense is still on your device)
and with a custom ROM like Cyanogen Mod 6.1 which allows a ton of customization OR which might be your best (warranty voiding) option opendesire which is a rom based on htc sense, but has a ton of customization ive personally only used CM6.1 and Stock Froyo rom

I have found that the way for me is not rooting because I cannot justify it in any way, but it is a personal choice and one I choose not to do, just like all that say do not use a task killer, well my phone works just fine with a task killer and so I will keep it also!!!! Your phone, Your choice do not let someone else make it for you!!!! I have had Froyo for over two months now and am very pleased with the way my phone is working now, cannot wait for 3.0 to come out for it!!!
How can I do it ? Can i get step by step guide please ? I do have a spare microSD card, spare time, and I already synced all my contacts and calender with google. Can I backup my settings and apps too or I have to re-do them all over again ? I want HTC sense and get OTA updates directly from HTC
The latest firmware out now is the V.2.10.405.2, after I did the 2.09 my 2.10 did not show up for three days but I did the full Ruu update instead because I wanted the updated radio firmware that only comes with the Ruu because it was taking longer than I wanted to connect with the AT&T network, after the 2.10 Ruu update my network connection was much faster because of the updated radio firmware that was with the ruu..I did the 2.09.405.8 build rather than the 2.10.405.2.
When I check for updates it says I am up to date.
Shouldn't there be some updates available?
That might be my last question ......for today![]()
I am just making dinner for the better half and I am going to write step by step instructions for everyone. I may not do it right away because its Halloween but I promise to do it.

Your choice read each one and do the one that you think you can do.
Remember you will need to make a Gold Card for either one so make it first.

Make two gold cards and leave one in your phone always because you will always need it in the phone for all updates!!!
This is very easy all you need to do is read what Teppic has written in the post and TAKE YOUR TIME do not rush it so make sure that you have plenty of time to get it done, AFTER ALL if I can do it anyone can!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!!

No, you need to create a new img file for each gold card that you want to create.
Yes if you made a goldcard, it should come up. I also installed 2.09.405.8 and upon bootup I went to check for updates and it prompted but I didn't update anyways.I did the 2.09.405.8 build rather than the 2.10.405.2.

No once you make a goldcard and keep it on the same SDcard, you can use that same one for as long as you like.I guess I misunderstood how goldcards work ... I thought they were specific to your device's internal ID numbers. So does that mean the goldcard I made to install the 2.2 RRU can't be used by my device again?
Related to this, when Gingerbread comes out, will I make a new goldcard, and then just install the RRU like I did for 2.2?
Yikes....are you basically recommending I reflash with 2.10?
Is this the only way to get the latest radio?
