Telus - htc desire 2.2

Ah yes... I do indeed have 8 apps!

Is there any other advantage over the OTA one over the update I posted above?

Sookster mentioned that the OTA had the full version of shazam. Other than that, prolly no difference. I'm glad I'm clean of any software the carriers force upon you.

Just as a heads up. Just talked to HTC. They said they will put a download link to the RUU but it takes about a month. So nobody mess up their phone if you really want Telus's crap. I personally do not and I would prefer updates in the future. Hope that info helps.

Well I am going to flash to 2.10 as I am not getting any updates with a valid gold card with 2.09....even over wifi.

There really is no other benefit from 2.09 to 2.10 unless you have issues with the radio and connecting to your APN.

I can't install that from the 2.09 stock froyo 2.2 rom can I? lol any real benefits from the updated radio?

Ok I've tried this 5 times now and no exclamation mark comes up. as well even when I toggle verification It still fails. I have no idea what i'm missing

so i havent been able to get a clear answer on this, hopefully someone who did the OTA update can answer this.

i updated mine via the RUU goldcard method and worked fine, but it has no bluetooth voice dialing. on the telus OTA update, is there bluetooth voice dialing enabled?

thanks

Whoa, since the Desire I updated was previously a rooted 2.1, it still has Superuser.apk on it and it appears in the drawer and there's no way of removing it now. LOL so be careful before updating if you're already rooted (you could boot into clockwork and remove the apk from /system/app).

That's why on every "Major" update (no matter what phone it is) I always do a factory reset and get the clean image and go straight to the update for a squeaky clean install... :)

so i updated to the stock froyo RUU of 2.2 the other night and everything is going great. one thing that htc stripped out of that version is bluetooth dialing, which was a major selling point of android 2.2. from googling i found out that htc's stance on that is that they only disabled bluetooth voice dialing outside of north america.

so i was wondering, to those who grabbed the update through telus, do you now have full bluetooth command control like you would on a motorola razr from 5 years ago? or is it disabled like in the stock 2.2 ruu that is floating around.

thanks

The only thing I see is that they give you is "Cyberon Voice Commander" which is the $6 market app. Cyberon is different from the one on Motorola but basically the same.

It's basically the "standard Google voice search" but say it does eliminate a step.

For instance if I open Cyberon and say "Call Home" it does that no problem. If I use the satndard voice search and say "call home" then I need to confirm on the phone that I want to call home.

Hope that helps... :)

So I did the update on Saturday with the gold card route with this image: RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.10.405.2_R_Radio_32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed,

but my wife got the OTA update.

One thing that I like about hers over mine is that holding the home button shows the last 8 apps run, instead of the last 6 apps on mine.

Is there a way to undo mine so i can accept the OTA update instead, or is there a newer HTC Froyo RUU that we can use?

The 8 apps over 6 is EXTREMELY SWEET IMO!

Really never thought it was that important when I first got it, but I lost count of how many time I wished for 8 over 6. I have one other Android device still on Eclair and can't wait for the update on that to get the 8 on their as well...

hey everyone, just got my desire last week joined the forum and this is a great place!! not sure if everyone has updated to 2.2 with the telus yet but I was able to do it last nite.

go into "settings" ---> about phone ---> software updates ---> check now----> there it is!

sorry if this is a repost of something previous, hope it helps!

Can we flash this if unbranded????

I would be careful not to mess around with this, I don't think its the FULL RUU where the radio is included. Should maybe wait until the devs make an official release with the Telus RUU or wait for HTC to put it up for download. I honestly wouldn't bother yet because there has not been any clear differences between this and the Stock Froyo 2.2 update other than the updated radio and minor bloatware like cyberon and asphalt 5.

Yeah ask around about attempting to update while unbranded, I don't know the answer to that one.

I will wait - I don't want to be the guinea pig :p

I think my phone is more responsive on 2.10 as opposed to 2.09. Just qualitative of course.

I don't know why it wouldn't update OTA.

HEY
can someone please help me out. I flashed my 2.1 desire to the RUU 2.2 and most things work fine but when im not in a WIFI area (my school) i have no access to the internet or the market and most of my apps (some apps dont even require internet access to run). i have a data plan so thats not the cause of my problems. I've googled it and read most of this forum but cant find an answer, can some please reply to me and help me out so i dont have flash back to 2.1 :(
Thanks!!:)

Yep, sounds like flyte is right. After you do the update, you'll likely need to re-enter your APN settings. This can be found SETTINGS-WIRELESS & NETWORKS - MOBILE NETWORKS- ACCESS POINT NAMES. Then enter the settings for your carrier (rogers,telus,etc.). Dont know the APN settings for your carrier?? do a quick search on this forum and you'll find them no problem. Its easy to set up.

i've updated my desire with the 2.2 but after the update i had problems with all my Google apps so i decided to call Telus Tech and he said that they're getting tons of calls in regards to this and that the only option they found was to reboot the phone. i bought an unlocked Desire so i don't have the key code for it but after downloading the 2.2 update it was still unlocked but after rebooting i lost it. not a big deal as i'm with telus anyways and won't be travelling back to Asia anytime soon, i just want to share my experience yesterday.

cheers!
