Telus - htc desire 2.2

Edited to say: Okay, so the problem was that I wasn't on Wifi, just a data connection. When I got on wifi and checked for it, it popped up.

go into "settings" ---> about phone ---> software updates ---> check now----> there it is!

When I do this, it says my phone is up to date and there are no updates available.

It's 2.1, on Telus, and not unbranded or rooted... soooo.. what gives?

A coworker did the Telus OTA update to 2.2 then wanted me to do the stock HTC WWE 2.2 so I did the update we talked about on the 1st page of this thread and it worked no problem. It went the same as doing it on a 2.1. By applying the 2.2 RUU, you are wiping the telus software and applying the HTC version. As far as branding.. telus had very little branding to begin with - extra apps?, but the model number is a giveaway, and you need the goldcard in to do the update.

I have done the latest 2.2 RUU and it works great. I'm bored with this phone now and I think I'll put it for sale in the classifieds. I want to either put Android on a HTC HD2 (win 6.5) or get a Desire HD to play with for a bit.

The desire is a fantastic phone, I'll likely get another one after I'm done playing around with Android some more...

A phone is a phone. How bored could you be? I mean I would grab a laptop or something else to compliment a Desire.

I guess each person looks for something different in a phone. I look for functionality, longevity, and durability, along with apps and other stuff like that. I have yet to find a phone like the Desire to do all that.

Before you sell it, the HD is just like the Desire but bigger and with the new HTC Sense. Maybe you should try the new Windows Mobile or Iphone?

Anyone know in 2.2 if were suppose to be able to Drag the 7 Homescreen into whatever order we want? I'm sure I saw it in a video, but perhaps it was for 3.0.

For example when you're on your homescreen and you "zoom out" and it displays all 7 Screens, there is supposedly a way to drag them around.

I believe this is in the new sense ui? which is only for desire z and hd for now

Ya I guess I get bored pretty quick. I've had the iPhone (all flavors) and I can't stand iTunes and apple... I really like the desire don't get me wrong. I just would like to see if the same thing with a larger screen is better for mobile surfing, etc... or if that bigger phone is going to be a pain inthe butt to use as a phone because its bigger.

As for the win7 phones, I'd be interested to ply with it for a day but don't think I'd want one.

Maybe you should hold off a little because if this is true, then I will also be all over it and the Desire will be on E-bay to help defray the cost of the HD!!!

Yea the HD sounds good, especially if it comes to Telus. I hear it drains battery pretty fast though because of the larger screen. If you do get one, let us know how you like it.

I will but I will bet it will not be as easy to get as the Desire was, seem's Telus has wised up and now no longer has the Desire on their website with no contract, I would be willing to bet that the HD will be that way from day one!!!:( As for the Battery I can live with that, not a deal breaker!!

That was my plan!! I'm ahead of the curve again... for 10 minutes. I didn't know it might be going to Telus though, and figured I'd have to get an unlocked one at an inflated cost. If ANYONE goes to the htcsense website the desirez and hd are listed so I'm not sure how they figure it will come to Canada first other than a rumor from a 'source'. We'll see. I did have an Evo 4G I got to play with at work and the screen was great. It made a difference watching video and surfing the web. I did, however, think it was too big to use daily as a phone.

I also was in a Telus store the other day seeing if they got any new cases for the desire and it was still for sale without a contract, so not sure what the website is trying to relay to the customer there.

So if anyone wants a mint condition, pretty new Telus Desire running HTC stock 2.2 send me a PM!
