Root Temp Root

Is there a temp. root for the TB that doesn't wipe data? I want to back up my data with Titanium Backup before using the ADB root.

I don't think there is a way to accomplish that. I see what you are trying to do...and it's a great idea. But Z4 root won't work on the TB (even for temp root). If you use the ADB or 1 click script method, I believe you cannot boot up the phone with temp root access.

If anyone knows a way this is possible, this would be good info to know so please post it ;)

i believe that the means needed to even achieve temp root at this stage in the game will wipe the data. but ive been wrong before

if you sync your apps with app brain, will it automagically re-download them after a reset?

Okay, I can't guarantee this will work but I don't see any reason why it won't...but proceed at your own risk.

If you follow that link and read through the steps, you will notice that in step 3 you gain temp root. You will also notice that you have not yet performed any action that would cause your phone to lose any data. You are still running the stock firmware, your phone is still usable. Any changes made up to this point will be reverted anytime you reboot your phone.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT...I repeat...DO NOT go past step 3. If you proceed to step 4, you WILL lose all data and flash back to an older OS.

Once you have completed step 3 in the guide:
- On your phone, open the Android Market.
- Download and install Super User (by ChainsDD).
- Download and install Titanium Backup.
- Open Titanium Backup and if you get an error about not having root, click the "Problems?" button at the bottom of the screen and select the "Get Busybox" option.

Once you have backed up your apps...you can reboot to remove the temp root or go on to step 4 in the guide here to complete the root procedure (but I think there are easier and faster methods now available).

Thanks, I might try this but knowing me I would probably screw up my phone.

I tried it and it didn't work. Titanium backup did not recognise that i had root, busy box did not install, & superuser said "An error occurred and su was not updated". Any ideas on ways to fix this?

So you were able to successfully complete steps 2 and 3? (step 1 is just downloading the necessary files)

Not sure why that wouldn't work cause all the necessary files get pushed to the phone???

Unfortunately I can't test it cause I don't want to unroot and return to stock just to test.

Ya it all seemed to work fine but none of the apps that require root would work and i couldnt get busybox to install

Okay well I'm sorry it didn't work. I wish I had a solution but you might just have to live with losing all your data and rooting your device completely.

Your apps installed from the market should all come back after you log in but all your call logs, texts, application data, game save data, etc. will be lost.

You can use My Backup Pro in the market but its a paid app (and you're probably only going to use it this once). It would be able to save the majority of the stuff for you though. I don't know what else to recommend.

Just curious what kind of data do you need to back up for a phone only a couple of weeks old that you couldn't just redo?

Who wants to start Angry Birds all over again? It's hard to get 3 stars on some of those levels! :D

That is true and I almost put that in my post. (you're not kidding about some of those 3 star levels) Anyway, that would be the only thing and with that you could save data to your SD card. That worked for me once I think but it was an involved process. I just immediately root now and restore my titanium backup AB. I was even able to get all my 3 star levels from my DI to my TB.

Does anyone know the directory all the data for apps is kept in? Would it be possible to zip it and save it to the SD card then unzip it and replace the directory upon full root or in my case the new Tbolt w/o a cracked screen.

Thanx
Roman
