Help Terrible battery life.

ADos

Newbie
Yes I saw the sticky and read it before anyone yells at me. I didnt find it very helpful, sorry. I got my phone a few days ago and just to use today as an example, im down to around 35% battery life after 5 hours. I played a game for maybe 20 minutes of that, the rest was just sitting there. This was after i spent all night charging it. The brightness is at minimum, bluetooth and wifi off, screen timeout is 1 min but i normally lock it myself. Any suggestions?

Factory reset? Other than that I don't know what to tell you. My battery life is astounding, using all of the tricks and playing about an hour of games (collectively) and moderate web browsing (all while on wifi) I can get around 30 hours.

Locking and unlocking causes more batter drainage than just leaving it awake. Make sure your 'auto sync' is turned off in the 'Accounts & Sync' settings. Turn off GPS.

So Goat you are always running wifi? I've never followed how wifi works on phones, does it save battery life when it picks up wifi?

Also off topic but i dont want to start another thread, is there a way to change your lockscreen or does anyone know a good free app for it? I used to use one but now it costs 2$ and im cheap

I'm always running wifi at work and at home, so I'd say about 80% of my time is on wifi. Not sure what you mean by how it works but I'd venture a guess and say using wifi does save some battery power. Not having to use the 3g radio to get the internet is a power saver

Turning off always on mobile data made a big difference for me. Menu> Settings>Wireless & Networks> Mobile networks> uncheck the box that shows enable always on mobile data.
Also check to see if your phone is running on global mode, you don't want that.
Menu>Settings> Call> Preferred Network set it to cdma.
I amazed a Verizon worker with this, seeing he had a dinc2, I showed her my battery life and how long the phone had been on for. I use clarus battery widget, which she didn't quite understand either, I have mobile network toggle and accounts & sync on my home screen when I want to sync and/or use the internet I turn them on when I am done I switch both back off.
I also find using Opera mini to browse uses way less battery power than other browsers, although out is not a fully functional browser and not good for most things, it does sip the precious juice.

My first two days I'm getting about 12 hours a charge.
But I'm constantly listening to podcasts out of the speaker, going on the internet (wifi,) and playing some games.

I predict that after a few weeks I'll be getting normal time out of the battery.

If you're only a few days in, I'd bring it to a Verizon store and tell them about the issue. It's clearly bad battery life, and it sounds like you've done more than enough to get a full day out of it. You should be able to get it swapped.

So I think I fixed it, I did a factory reset and erased my task killer that the emplyee put on there when I got the phone, and I urge everyone to do the same. I've always thought they were pointless and now i have proof that it annihilates your battery. I'll update this later today and see how my battery holds up

Does a factory reset delete everything on the phone? apps, contacts, root, etc?

How do you do a factory reset?

My battery life is still terrible. I unplug the phone from a full charge and it immediately goes to 96%.

If you turn off mobile data do you also lose the ability to make and receive sms texts?

Thank you.

No. You won't be able to send/receive MMS (picture) messages, but text messaging will work as long as you can make/receive phone calls.

Have you looked to see what specifically is using the battery? The Gingerbread update added a much more detailed battery log.

Agreed, you have to get a general overview of how the battery is being used and also see if there's a specific process causing a problem. I'm not remembering the details at the moment, but at one point I had a process that was pegging the CPU and drawing the battery down. Battery life went back to normal after I killed it. A task killer can sometimes be useful if you run it "on demand".

That is incorrect, I just sent, and received a MMS after turning the option off for "Always on mobile data network"

That's different - the poster asked if you turned off mobile data, not if you turned off "always on"... By mobile data, I assume they meant the 3G mobile network. When you turn that off, you cannot send or receive data, and MMS require the mobile network.

Totally understandable - I was second-guessing myself too after I read your post because always-on was also mentioned in this thread.

Is cell reception bad in your area? If you spend a lot of your day with poor cell signal, that might be causing your problem. After 12-16 hours off the charger I am pretty consistely at 50% or higher with the standard battery. I have not done much to get acceptable battery life, mainly using Juice Defender set at the "Balanced Profile" and screen brightness set at either 25% or Auto using the Brightness Level app (from CurveFish). GPS is always on and Bluetooth is mostly off except when I need it for handsfree calls.

Here are some tips for improving battery life http://androidforums.com/incredible...e-official-htc-incredible-battery-thread.html Have you tried a different battery? If you are still having poor battery life, take your INC2 back to Verizon.

at my primary office i have HORRIBLE (read.... 0-1 signal bars) reception, and half way through the day im at half battery life or worse. any other time when i am on decent reception i can get almost 2 days out of a full charge. so when i am at work, i just throw my phone on airplane mode (so i can still play games) or just shut it off if necessary.

Thanks for the curvefish brightness widget toggle, it is just what I have been looking for to put on my home screen!

I have the same problem. -96dBm at my desk.
