Help Terrible Email Error Message - HELP

Yesterday while checking email my Droid Incredible 2 (HTC) Verizon, phone went blank. When I tried to recall email this was the message I recieved: "The application Mail (process com.htc.android.mail) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. Force close."
I did force close. Rebooted, pulled out battery, tried everything I could think of. Deleted my email accounts, tried to re-enter them to no avail.
Does anyone know what this message means and how to get it off my phone and get my email accounts back?

It really can mean anything. Did you clear data on the mail app via manage applications?
