Help Tethering after JB update

Today I tried to tether and got a message that I needed a subscription. So is tethering gone after jellybean update? Can I setup a mobile hotspot and get Internet access for my computer that way?

I have unlimited data, but I have not ever rooted before. I need it only once in awhile, like when I'm at an airport.

Somme of us just pay Verizon to do it up front.

If you want to Root and investigate your alternatives I will move your question to All Things Root where the expertise on that subject visit.

I don't know when they did it but those of us grandfathered into unlimited lose. If you have a data plan you can tether free if I recall correctly. With unlimited you need to root to get it. I believe the FoxFi app used to work, not sure if it does anymore or not, give it a try.

I just downloaded FoxFi and will check it out this evening. Is the USB mode the basic tethering? That's all I need. About airports, only Orlando and Asheville have free Wi-Fi that I have found in my travels.

I was able to set up a mobile hot spot and it worked to get Internet for my computer. I had to set a security pattern on my phone. I couldn't figure out the USB, but that is OK.
