Tethering on Metro **GSM**? Tell us HOW you're doing it

I'm successfully on a rooted gsm Vitria on metro and have the 60$ unlimited and I'm tethering flawlessly. It's so great it's faster than most wifi. I've tethered over 35gigs and still blazing fast. It is possibly and very well worth it. The only downside is I can't use Google Chrome while surfing. Safari works, but when I use Chrome I'm promoted to a metro pcs page telling me to pay. I use safari with no problems

User agent switcher should fix that

it takes them around 6 weeks to notice that you are using large amount of data. then they start throttling your speed during daytime.

my own experience. december, january i used 45~50 GB a month. around late january i noticed speed throttling during daytime. specially from 4 pm to 10~11 pm its agony. can not even browse properly. speed dips below 100 kbps. made a post about it awhile back with Bruce. i'll look for it.

I've been successful using the Android App called EasyTether Pro in conjunction with a Chrome extension called Ultimate User Agent Switcher. The only downsides with EasyTether Pro is the cost ($10) and it only does USB tethering for PC/MAC. I got it for $5 on the Amazon App Store a while back on sale, so that helped. The USB tethering is a bit troubling, but it does help prevent battery drain. Apparently, the developer is adding the ability to change User Agent strings in a future build. For now, I use the Chrome extension and set it to Android.

All this talk about tethering....

Okay guys I need some help. On my unlimited $50 plan(booya! Got the $60 promo last year) I can tether/hotspot without any issues other than having to switch user agent on Chrome. Other than that, Origin, Steam (Big Picture Mode ONLY), League of Legends, and World of Tanks all play flawlessly over my LTE connection. My computer is also able to download updates automatically without problems.

And to those people who claim 40-50GB per month, I smoked you! This January after finishing my computer build, I downloaded over 88GB through January alone, downloading drivers, updates and games (Battlefield 4, alone, was 24GB, Wold of Tanks was 8GB, Rome II was I think 8-12GB, LoL was like 4GB, and my other games were anywhere from 4-8GBs).

Okay so onto my question before I waste anymore time.... My girlfriend wants to get a 4G phone so that she can tether off of to play her games or go online while I am at school and work. We cannot currently get internet from an ISP because of construction going on where we live and because of some bs that each home can only be served by one ISP(we live in a back house, don't judge). Our internet since we moved here has all been through my GS3. I use it for school, gaming, and youtube.

Now, the phones available that we can buy from Metro PCS are the LG Optimus L70 and Alcatel OneTouch Fierece, both of which are HSPA+ 4G phones using what I believe T-Mobile's GSM network. Can either of these phones tether using useragent switchers and tethering apps like Foxifi/PDANet?

First off congratulations on blowing my doors off aim to reclaim the title soon, but I think you should but there are somethings kitkat did to break it, and with all the stuff you did via pc go lte and don't look back

@necromonger89
could you tone it down a bit bud?
i am glad that you are enjoying that but you do not want mods or metro employees browsing to take an interest in "the uncomfortable but very specific foolish details that you provided" about your uses. we do mention the amount of data used, vague descriptions like downloading, torrent, streaming etc. but thats about it.
let me tell you, t-mobile is technologically way more advanced compared to the other carriers and efficient to plug loopholes. so far our uses are under the radar but with post like yours, you are just begging to get noticed. how would you feel if they come back with a way to block it at network level, no internet for you at home.
/off rant.

Yes foxfi works.. just need to use a useragemt switcher... i have done it on my note3... but as far as using it for xbox and such kt wont work...dont know if there is a workaround..havent tethered in months though..

So I can't tether anymore on the unlimited plan? I'm on the $60 plan and it's saying I have to pay $5 a month (I think) to use mobile hotspot. Wasn't this included in the real unlimited plan?

60$ unlimited plan does not allow you to tether at all. just use a user agent switcher as mentioned plenty of times in this thread already.
