Believe me, I have been avoiding signing up with the android forums site for two months now. I have been attempting to fix my phone but the effort has become stale. So here it is:
Phone: Motorola Triumph
Service: Virgin Mobile (if this matters, just in case)
I have read almost every thread I could find about tethering issues and I have tried everything except for rooting the darn phone- which I would like to avoid.
I have three computers- an xp, a windows 7 and a windows vista. The ONLY computer I can tether internet use (via pda net) is the xp. The rest-- agh. It's like a bad horror film.
I have installed the adb, the java sdk, etc. etc., and nothing has changed. The two computers that do not work (win7 and vista), do NOT read my phone as it's own device- it only reads as a CD-ROM. The biggest difference is that it reads the same way on the xp, but on the xp it works. So I've scratched my brain and others' brains and I can't figure this one out.
I have called Virgin Mobile as well as Motorola and neither of them could give me any information as to why this is occurring. I have downloaded the motorola drivers (though I'm not sure if they are working or not because I do not understand HOW they work). So please, somebody, anybody, give me your advice!
