Accessories Tetrax XWay Car Mount

Guys, where do you buy your XWay? The link above for ThinkGeek is for a standard Tetrax ($25 + $6 shipping). I called them up and they are out of XWay which they sell for $35 + $6 shipping. Kind of pricey. eBay has a seller in FL, $35 + $5 shipping. The thread about SoundGate M2 mentioned ONLY buying M2 for $5 (with "woot" discount) + $5 for shipping. XWay is not $5, but rather $35 + shipping. Also, SoundGate was acquired by Kicker now its discontinued (SoundGate | KICKER). I guess that explains a cheap price (eBay and Amazon also sells them for under $10 shipped).

I'm leaning more toward XWay, but the cheapest I've seen was $40 shipped, and its a little pricey considering other options or anything else upcoming. What do you guys think?

The XWAY is worth the Money.

Does the magnet on the back of XWay activates GPS landscape mode, or whatever that mode is activated with a magnet? Or do you need to glue a magnet somewhere on X-cross? Than, other question is that if magnet is flipped with a wrong polarity it will activate multimedia mode.

I'm leaning more toward XWay for another reason that its also easier to remove from one car to another. Just need to find out about "magnet"? Thanks!

No.

I am not aware of something that would automatically trigger "car mode". So no.

The magnet is on the XWAY. You put a small disk on the back of your phone. See my video review here:

I don't know if the incredible has a dock mode that is activated by a magnet the way the Droid and Droid X do. I would actually like it if it were put into cock mode, but it would have to be Car Dock, not multimedia dock. These are differentiated by the direction of the magnet.

No.

Do want. Thinkgeek is out of the X-way version though :(

I'm wondering how well the standard would hold the DX though.

Yes, in this thread (http://androidforums.com/accessories-droid-x/125360-droid-x-eze-stand-desktop-dock.html) it described that having a magnet in one direction will activate a "car dock" mode versus the other direction or polarity will activate "multimedia" mode. Very clever. I actually played with a magnet yesterday using one of those chip clips from a fridge, the only one I found handy lol!!! Since it was only in one polarity, it activate multimedia mode. Basically, I thought if you have a strong earth magnet and connecting to a metal disk attached to some kind of a case on the phone, made it will be strong enough to activate "magnetic" trigger on the back of DX. But you confirmed it might not be the case. What I'm actually thinking is that you mount your disk-magnet connection smack in the middle. But that magnetic trigger is off to the side oposite of the camera. So if you glue a magnetic strip on one of the x-wings of XWay, maybe that will work.

BTW, I think its cheaper to buy from eBay versus ThinkGeek. TG will be over $41 shipped, but probably easier to return than eBay in case if something doesn't work.

Do you think you can try it out, please?

So I'm wondering if there exists a universal bracket of some sort that would just "pop" into an existing windshield mount. I have a Garmin GPS that I won't probably use much now, but the bracket works great and the suction is almost impossible to lose. Anyway, if I can find a bracket to hold my X and be able to snap it onto the ball on that mount, I'd be set. It HAS to exist...anyone?

Went ahead and ordered this from ebay.

I normally got for ProClip's options, but I'm getting tired of how poor the vehicle mount for my Cobalt SS is and I think this would work a lot better...plus I don't have to buy a new one every time I buy a new vehicle or a new phone!

The sensor is pretty close to the bottom of the Droid X, so having the Tetrax mount near the center of the phone will not trigger the car dock mode. I did trigger it with the mount though by putting the phone against the mount in the right spot. The phone had to be right against the mount to trigger it though.

BTW, I still need to get some pictures up of my old TomTom suction-cup mount that I modified for the XWAY.

Please excuse my ignorance on the auto activation as I am using the HTC Dinc.

No problem. At first, I thought we were in the car mount thread in the Dinc forum (where I started/learned about the XWAY). Then I realized that this is one of the threads in the DX forum.

Does anyone know of any other place to buy this than ThinkGeek? I did a quick search but it appears every link eventually leads back to ThinkGeek.

Sweet. Thanks.

This should work with any case since the magnet is applied to the back of the case, correct? I have the stock silicone one from verizon.

Yes. Before I had my Seidio Innocase II, I was using the Gel case from VZW as well. I recommend clamping as I show in this post over at the HTC forums.

People complained about theirs falling off the gel case, however I affixed mine as described above with no problems, just apply direct pressure for a while and you will be good.

Awesome. Just ordered mine. Thanks for the super fast responses.

Uh, one more question. In my GS350 horizontal blades of air vent where you clamp XWay are not fixed, they get adjusted up/down. Wouldn't that be an issue going over the bump, etc. where it will move up/down due to an extra weight clamped to these blades? Also, it seems that if I used center air vents (the only place for me to clamp it), I might have a viewing angle issue since I can't tilt it toward the drivers side?

So the consensus is to go for the XWAY rather than the standard? Is the standard one just not as sturdy or what?

Man, I wish thinkgeek still had the xway in stock. They have $10 off promo (SDCC) when you spend $30 or more.

I was just about to order it, than read about Tetrax/Garmin combo, than read about Arkon Mega Grip (w/option for vent or windshield or dashboard). Decisions, decisions, decisions...

Check your vents - on my bimmer they also adjust horizontally, except for the lowest rib on the vent - that one is fixed. I attached it to the fixed rib. Attaching them to flex ribs is useless - the phone will swing up and down.

ThinkGeek.com has it for $24.99 plus shipping ...i found a promo code ..so i saved extra $5. ..though im so impatient  i took next day shipping for $11 lol ... so yeah ..you do the math ... lol

So how is going to be mounted, ball socket type and suction cup? Can't read Italian and can't really tell from those 2 pictures.
