Help text input methods?

I would take everything VZW techs say with a grain of salt. An extremely tiny grain of salt.

Definitely. Was doing so, but yesterday they tricked me into thinking they knew their shit. I'm gonna drop by there and ask them some questions.

also, does switfkey offer the spelling buttons replying to this thread?
yes sir! (edit, wait, I guess I was thinking on tapatalk. I'll check it out now for you when I pry my phone out of my 3 year old's hands lol...
It does so with most apps. but some desktop style websites don't.

my bad tenchy. It doesn't work. and actually that's the main reason I was looking for an app like tapatalk to use swiftkey on forums.

I just installed Swype and it is neat. Definitely worth a try. I am typing with it right now. Definitely better on portrait than landscape.

OK thanks. That is the lesser of my evils, and I can take that.
The arrows are really the thing I need

arrow keys?

and why better in portrait?
Is it the smaller size is better for swiping?

arrow keys are accessed by Swyping from from the "Swype" key to the "123 +!=" key (which is right next to it, in the bottom left corner of the keyboard)

Also, you can select-all, by Swyping frome the "Swype" key to "a" (similar to ctrl+a)
Copy by Swyping from the "Swype" key to "c" (similar to ctrl +c)
Cut by Swyping from the "Swype" key to "x" (similar to ctrl +x)
Paste by Swyping from the "Swype" key to "v" (similar to ctrl +v)

(certainly came in handy in writing this post:p)

Oh, and word prediction is provided in the browser as I Swype this as well.

hmmmmm...now you've got me quite intrigued. might just check that one out today. How well is the word prediction?

Works well for me...but I usually don't have qualms with weird predictions.

My biggest issue is when I want to use a word that's not really a word.....like, Gronkowski

I like the way Swype handle this...I type the word manually and then after pressing the space key, I'm given the option to "add it to the dictionary" ...now I can Swype Gronkowski all day long!

I should note that in typing this post, I've discovered that word prediction doesn't happen in the browser when typing, only when Swyping...must be an Android thing:(

Any chance of screen grabs of the swype kb with arrow keys, landsxape and portrait

<flutters eyelashes :)>

Your best bet is Youtube to see it in action.

Here's one vid but there are many.

First Look at Swype for Ice Cream Sandwich - YouTube

I'm not impressed. I like speech recognition, but he is quite an eloquent speaker. I'm not, and the swiftkey speech recog works great for me.
Here's a recent vid from youtube, 5 minutes.

Still not impressed. It seems so slow compared to swiftkey. swiftkey predicts your words very amazingly. Sometimes just a couple letters will show a 10 letter word you want. Actually, often!

Ugh. I uninstalled it. It over rides Google's voice recognition which I love. If they change that, I will try it again.
Thanks for the warning. I love google's voice rec too.
I also wonder how it would affect Any.do's voice rec

Swype's bread and butter is the Swyping instead of typing.

I don't type, so I use word prediction for predicting words that I Swype incorrectly not for predicting words from the first few letters. I also don't use the voice-to-text feature, so I can't gauge it there. That seems to be the major complaint, tho, that you don't have the OPTION to continue using Google's voice recognition so they may change that...but then again, they may not since they're now owned by dragon diction, so they may want to push that.

Definitely liking Swiftkey X so far. I've been trying different keyboards lately. Tried Swype again and FlexT9. The predictions in Swiftkey are uncanny. Just put it on my wife's Galaxy Tab 10.1 and she was impressed with the predictions. Said it was scary. :-)

Just wanted to check. Does the spell checking come with keyboards?
I ask partially from info above, but because the standard one does something very infuriating.
When it offers spelling options, if I get a word underlined in red I can tap it and choose the right word, but it keeps putting it back in even if I delete the whole word. Drives me mad.
Will a new keyboard remove this pain?

Just thought I'd try swype beta first as it's free.
But before accepting the install, the permissions put me off.
Why does it need access to phone calls etc, and what about this prevent device from sleeping?
Will swype decrease battery life?
