Help text input methods?

Just thought I'd try swype beta first as it's free.
But before accepting the install, the permissions put me off.
Why does it need access to phone calls etc, and what about this prevent device from sleeping?
Will swype decrease battery life?

well I went for Swype beta in the end.
And was immediately quite impressed.
You need to think quickly to remember where the next letter is, but that is good for keeping the mind active instead of lazy!

And spell checking on forum posts is great!
(as long as I spot the correctly spelt but wrong words )
