Help text message fails due to area code dissappearingr

I have the Samsung Galaxy Prevail. I have 1 certain contact (the person i text the most) that whenever i go to text message her the area code mysteriously vanishes from the text thread and then the text bounces back. I get the message

9230:Message sent using invalid number of digits. Please resend using 10 digit number or valid shortcode.
Can anyone help me with this?

Hmm maybe try adding a 1 in the front of the area code? Or if you haven't added them to your contacts yet, you could try that. Sorry I don't have anything else I could think of.

they are in my contacts, I will try adding the 1 but i dont think that is the problems

no I dont think that is the problem either.
is this person in the same area code as you?
I dont know if a text message has to have the 10 digit number if the same area code. I know the phone does not.

i tried adding the 1 that didnt help at all. You are correct you only need 7 digits to dial within the same area code. The number is within the same area code. It is only giving me this problem with this one contact. It is very aggravating

Log into to your google account from a computer and make sure the contact has the area code listed in that address book. Your phone syncs your contacts from your google account.

Are you using stock SMS/MMS app or third party app.

Maybe try Handcent or Go SMS Pro.

I just got off the phone with boost because my prevail is doing the same exact thing w/ my girlfriend's number. The tech told me that all you have to do is delete that certain contact for atleast 24 hours and then add it again. He told me this has been an issue for alot of people and this has fixed the majority. Hope this helps!
