THANK YOU APPLE for the EVO and Android

This is blind fanboyism at best. Let me create an analogy to show you why.

Nintendo didn't invent video games, but they were the ones who propelled video games into the mainstream market.

Do you see where I'm getting at? Its not about who invented what, its about who is able to seize the idea and run with it. Give credit to the companies who are able to do this for consumers and leave your fanboyism at the door.

No, but nintendo didn't steal people's patents/work/inventions and try to pass it off like they came up with it.

Side note: Yay! more sub-100 post trolls! Where are the mods?

hmm lets say this again.

ANDROID was in developement BEFORE iphone.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

And to FURTHER re-iterate, Apple didn't put anything on the market that wasn't ALREADY available

I hate Apple with every fiber of my being, but you sir, are delusional. Even if Android had been released before the iPhone, who's to say that it wouldn't have failed? This entire argument is all subjective, but you can't sit there and deny what it is that Apple has done. First they innovate the in the MP3 player market. Then the smartphone market. Next we'll see how the tablet market goes. You just simply cannot sit there and deny what Apple have done with these markets. Of course, they weren't the first to do capacitive touch or the app store, but it was the fact that they packaged it all in a way that made it easy for consumers.

I thanked them everyday for my Archos, and now for Android. They energized stagnant markets plain and simple.

I started this thread because I was sick in tired of seeing the same question about the EVO asked 100 times. I am one who can't wait for Jun. 4 to come. I mean come on how many times can someone confirm or deny the 10$ fee for a EVO or does it come with Android 2.1 or Froyo?

This thread was quite civil before you come trouncing in here. I believe the OP is 100% legitimate in his claims.

Yup, I'm sure Apple stole all of the work they came up with. They probably stole ideas to make the highly successful iPod, iPhone, and now the iPad which is selling millions.

You need to wake up and look in a mirror and see that you're the only troll here. I wasn't the one who used 100 font size and started whining about Android OS.

You seem very biased to me, so it's hard for me to blindly trust your statements. What do you mean Android was in development before the iPhone? You mean before the iPhone went on sale of course, but not necessarily before the iPhone OS began development which was likely years before that. Unless you worked at Apple, I don't think anyone knows when Apple started developing the iPhone OS and coming up with those ideas.

I would be hard pressed to say that Android had all of the ideas in development first and then Apple some time later took the same ideas and released the iPhone before Android came to market. That is what you seem to be implying.

Symbian, WebOS, WinMo, Android OS, RIM

The only OS I see here that is worth my time is Android OS and the rest can be thrown in the trash. Its quite frustrating to think that these other players think they can just sit around and not innovate. No wonder they're all losing market share and the only one gaining is the iPhone OS and Android OS.

I would not count webOS out AT ALL. Have you even tried it? webOS does a lot of things a lot more elegantly than Android or iPhone. With the kind of backing HP is bringing it may really be the force to contend with in a year. I for one am getting an Evo because of the gorgeous hardware and definitely feel like Android is going in the right direction, but if I could choose I'd put webOS on the Evo over Android in a heartbeat. No question there.

I also need to add that it's probably because of Apple/AT&T that we are getting an Evo for $199. I think if they hadn't cut the price to what they did, forcing rivals to do the same, smartphones would still be a lot more expensive.

I dare one of you to try to prove me wrong.

Apple didn't invent the MP3 Player

In the early 1990s, Frauenhofer developed the first, however, unsuccessful MP3 player. In 1997, developer Tomislav Uzelac of Advanced Multimedia Products invented the AMP MP3 Playback Engine, the first successful MP3 player. Two university students, Justin Frankel and Dmitry Boldyrev ported AMP to Windows and created Winamp. In 1998, Winamp became a free MP3 music player boosting the success of MP3. No licensing fees are required to use an MP3 player

Hell, apple didn't even come up with the design of the iphone.

This is the LG Prada, which indeed released before iPhone.

Oh, and the iPad design? That was invented in 1968, and NOT by apple.

Biased? Maybe. Honest? Yes.

So please, explain to me, what EXACTLY did Apple innovate? Not the mp3 market... that was someone else. Not the smartphone market, once again, someone else... So please, in detail, explain.

And yet, apple has patents on these, which they did not invent. Which is cause for massive patent reform, but thats for another thread.

Great Marketing is not innovation.

some of you guys are nuts. Apple didn't do much more then refine technology that was already available. They came out with an improved product that focused on being user friendly which was the main selling point.

To say, though, that we would not have WebOS, Android, or the upcoming WinMobile 7 if it wasn't for the iPhone is just ignorant. There are some inspirations there for sure, but the iphone isn't perfect. It's entirely possible that we would have a BETTER phone if the iphone didn't exist since so many companies are trying to copy them. (samsung for example). If there were more innovations instead of copies we could have a better design or way of doing things, but instead we have clone after clone.

Thats why I like Android. It's the best of both. You get usability, and an open platform.

I don't think that many of you get it. Those of us with at least a quarter of a brain know that Apple was never a big innovator. They were never the proponent of brave new ideas. Apple has served mainly as a pusher of old tech to the public. They've done this by tidying up loose ends and making rather complicated devices so simple that a 5-year-old could master them. This forces innovation in the industry. They don't have to be the best--they merely have to be viewed as better in the eyes of the public. If any of you honestly thinks that the smartphone market would be where it is today without Apple, your hatred of the company is blinding you to an obvious reality.

I have been pro Apple since the 80's

When I bought the first iPhone in 07, I said it needs a bigger screen, more speed, and Adobe Flash

I've been waiting years for Apple to give me what I want.

When I saw the EVO, I said there's my phone!

The point is not necessarily that they wouldn't exist, but it's very possible they wouldn't be what they are today. It's possible things would've kept going in the Palm OS Windows Mobile direction.

innovate |ˈinəˌvāt|
verb [ intrans. ]
make changes in something established, esp. by introducing new methods, ideas, or products : the company's failure to diversify and innovate competitively.

It's obvious Apple did not invent any of these things, but I don't know how anyone can say they are not innovative. The reason their iPods, iPhones, and iPads sell so well is because any consumer can walk up and figure it out easily, no manual needed. To make something complicated look so easy is pretty damn hard for most people, which is why Apple leads in this department. For the average consumer, this is great. You have to realize we are not the average consumer. I for one am a tech person. I was the kid who took apart a walkman just to put it back together. And yes, it still worked. Not everyone needs more complicated even if it brings more power. I've used, and jailbroken, unlocked, every generation of iPhone. The user experience is great out of the box. Things run smoothly, quickly, and they look great. For me, that can take a backseat to being able to do what I want on and with my device. I use an Android phone now, and I'm getting a new Android device on the 4th. In 1997 (I think), Steve Jobs took the helm of a failing Apple and said that (I'm paraphrasing) "We need to lose the idea that for Apple to succeed, Microsoft has to lose." This holds true for Android. Apple and it's iPhone do not need to fail in order for Android to succeed.

For many of us we have Apple to thank for all these wonderful devices and mobile platforms. I am not a big fan of Apple but the truth be told, they have spured competion to the fullest in the mobile phone market.Remember every year we would get a refresh of the Motorola Razr? When I first got the Palm Treo everyone laughed at me for having such a big phone. Now having a 3.5 or greater inch screen is the status quo. It is very hard to say this but THANK YOU STEVE JOBS> Please make more state of the art phones so every one can steal your ideas and make them better and not proprietary
This troll posted this same crap over at Android Central.

If all these technologies existed, then why is it that Apple is leading the pack right now? The MP3 player, the Smartphone, and the Tablet markets were all at a virtual standstill in terms of innovation. Everyone knew that all the technology existed, but nobody could put it all together in a way that was appealing to the masses.

You have to realize that in order for technology to be truly successful, you have to make it easy enough so that even Grandma can operate them. This is where Apple has innovated. They basically showed everyone how to sell these existing technologies that you pointed out Apple stole. If you look at the path Android has been going you can see the same trend. Android at first didn't really catch on with the mass public. Now at this point, with 2.1-2.2 coming out, and all of the various iterations of Android (Sense, Motoblur, etc.) you are starting to see Android reach the masses on the same level Apple has. Sure Android would be around, but would they really have the same vision as they do now? Did they truly know how to be successful in this market?

Why is it so hard to admit that Apple has innovated in the smartphone market? Yes, they've stolen technologies. Yes, they are unethical and immoral as a company. Sound like another company who innovated the PC market in the 90s? This doesn't change reality, and the reality is Apple is a major reason we're able to enjoy the Smartphones we have today.

When I first got the Palm Treo everyone laughed at me for having such a big phone. Now having a 3.5 or greater inch screen is the status quo.

I remember when I got my first cell phone and a buddy of mine said, "Why do you need one of those, trying to be cool? What would you need to have a phone with you all the time for?!"
