The 10 cities 4G is Active in...

Att.com/network

Click coverage.

You'll see a lot of Blue/dark blue.

That's NOT 4G/HSPA+

AT&T is being deceptive.

Mouse over certain cities/areas, like LA, Houston, Dallas, Boston, etc...

It'll show you 4G coverage there.

There's only 9 or 10 cities throughout the US with HSPA+ active.

More AT&T BS.

Hmm this is interesting...

I had the HTC Inspire 4g for a few days and I was getting H+ signal but the speeds weren't 4g (leading me to assuming the enhanced backhaul part wasn't completed)

So my guess is that's just the coverage as of now and they still haven't turned on the enhanced backhaul?

They change the symbol from 3G to 4G and voila, 4G, except none of us are seeing 4G speeds. What gives ATT? I'm seeing LESS than 3G speeds. smh

These are supposedly the cities where it's available. I couldn't find a list on AT&T's website, so I make no guarantees about the accuracy of this:

●Bay Area, CA
●Greater Los Angeles, CA
●Northern, CA
●Chicago, IL
●Boston, MA
●Baltimore, MD
●Charlotte, NC
●Buffalo, NY
●Providence, RI
●Houston, TX
●Dallas, TX
●Puerto Rico

Dallas, TX right down the street from the corporate headquarters, but i dont get my atrix till Wednesday. It would be hilarious if it was super slow xD

I'm in Pasadena (Greater Los Angeles) and I want to test the Atrix on true HSPA+ at the AT&T store. Can you please give me instructions on how to do so without installing an app since I'll be using the AT&T demo? Of course I'll disable the WiFi.

i am getting the Atrix tomorrow here in South Florida and will let you guys know whats up around here. my coverage map shows strong dark blue all around. anxious to see how this compares to Verizon's horrible data speeds on my Droid X.

Los Angeles here... And no HSPA+ speeds. No one really knows when it will be turned on. Level 2 tech support was hoping march 6th but who knows..... If it's not on in 30days I'm returning this phone !

As mentioned in post# 5, according to AT&T's 4G map, greater Los Angeles is supposed to have active 4G. I just went to my local AT&T store (I'm in Greater LA too) and here's what I got (see linky).

Did any of you actually READ the map?

It says dark blue represents current 3G coverage and light blue represents future 3G coverage. "4G coverage NOT depicted".

i was at the AT&T store last night and they said Q4 it will be released down here BUT it is in Miami which is about an hour south of me.. not too sure i will reach those towers and see any gain :(

i SEE H+ in the corner.. what does that mean?? im on 4g or 3g?

H+ = HSPA+ = "AT&T's 4G"

(...which is capped at 6Mbs?)

AT&T 4G Network

att-2011_feat-4g-sm.jpg
This phone runs on AT&T's dual-band 850/1900 MHz 4G network (UMTS/HSDPA/HSPA+), and with HSPA+ you'll experience mobile data speeds up to 4x faster than ordinary mobile broadband--up to approximately 6 Mbps (download). AT&T has deployed HSPA+ to virtually 100 percent of its mobile broadband network, which enables 4G speeds when combined with enhanced backhaul (via Ethernet or fiber).
Backhaul is one of the major pieces of a telecommunications network. Think of it as the limbs connecting AT&T's cell towers with AT&T's backbone network that provides access to the Internet.
Coming later in 2011, AT&T will deliver a second layer of 4G network called LTE (Long Term Evolution) that is even faster than HSPA+ speeds.
In areas where either AT&T's 3G or 4G network is not available, you'll continue to receive service on the AT&T EDGE network, which offers availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways.
Note:
AT&T's 4G mobile broadband coverage is not available in all areas. 4G speeds delivered by HSPA+ with enhanced backhaul; availability increasing with ongoing backhaul deployment.

colnago: with that said (a little off topic), is there an uncapped hack out yet or CAN there be one made? i have the Droid X currently and will get my Atrix today but i know with Liberty ROM and Fission ROM, there is an uncapped.zip out and proven to work with Verizon... ????

I'll be in Baltimore tonight, so I'll test the speed there then.
@Colnago the H could also stand for regular ole' HSDPA (without the +), some rooted phones have that too. Also, it appears that the towers themselves are ready for the 4G (and so might be sending out that signal)
