The 8GB vs 16GB Thread

Just got the 8gb as well. Figured I will use the google drive to store docs. My wife has already claimed it to read 50 shades of grey

Am I to udnerstand that really the only reason for a 16GB would be if you plan on storing a larger amount of games, apps, music, pictures, etc? It still works by being able to pull, for instance, music and movies down from Google Cloud storage via Play Store account?

My wife uses Box, and looking to get her one of these...she has Google Apps acct for work, uses Box for all her files, and has a few movies here and there that she already rented via Play Store...therefore, no real need for extra 16GB if in fact you just want to use cloud storage?

Just wanted to make sure it works similar to how Amazon set up the Fire for customers (which my son has and loves).

I am considering one for myself, and we also use Box and I have a CRM SFDC that is all cloud based. I don't usually keep a lot of movies on it and most of what I listen to is via Spotify or using Amazon's MP3 player for my music purchased through them.

I try and keep my apps limited as well and rarely play games on it.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Sounds good, I got the 16gig because at work we're not able to connect to the WiFi systems there. So I store my movies on it. I keep all my music on Google Music and just stream through my phone.

Hey folks, I merged the other 8GB vs 16GB thread into this one. I hope you understand.:)

Is there a micro USB mass storage we could plug in if we wanted to store music or pics??

Apparently if we root our Nexus 7, and use the app StickMount, we can use USB Mass Storage. But I think we need a certain cord

Let's see. I purchased the 8 GB version because of the following. I utilize Google Drive which works FLAWLESSLY on the IPad and Nexus 7. If you have a gmail account you get 5 GB of free cloud storage. An additional 25 GB costs $2.50 per month. For $5 per month you get 100 GB. Hence, I own a 105 GB Nexus 7 that only cost me $199. Add your personal movies, photos, documents etc and access these items on your device via wifi. Works GREAT.

Sort of... at that argument, it's $259 for the 1st year, & $60/yr thereafter ;)
Yes and no. I access my data from Google's servers on THREE devices. Tablets of varying storage capacities come and go. Google Drive will be my first choice until portable devices can be sold at reasonable prices with large storage options. By large, I mean AT LEAST 64 GB. I confess, 8 GB is too small, but so too is 16 GB. I will NEVER pay, as an example $829 for a 64 GB iPad 3 with LTE. However, I would pay $629 for such a device at that capacity. I would also gladly pay $300 for a 64 GB Nexus 7. Until then, it's the Google Drive option for me. Hopefully, someday in the near future I won't need the Google Drive option. BTW, Google Drive works flawlessly over wifi. Flawlessly.

I went a different route.

Ting finally got a new batch of MiFi devices in. Specifically, the Huawei 5072 which comes with a sdmc slot. With a code I found on Fatwallet (VTIMR52), got the unit for $66 and change (plus a $35 activation fee). With this, I can have both my storage and 3G/4G access, with 2GB costing me about $30/month (assuming I use even that much, 1GB would be only $19).

I'm almost afraid to answer this. I bought the 16GB version and was FLAMED and RIDICULED and called many uncomplimentary things on another site because I WASTED $50 on 8GB of memory. They could get 16GB of storage at Best buy for 9.99 for chrissake.

Anyway...since this is not a 3G/4G device and relies on wifi or tethering I decided that more storage is better than less.

When traveling by car, most people don't have wifi. LOL I don't think the family of four (Dad, Mom, lil sis and baby bro) are sitting at McD's eating their happy meals and such, they would appreciate me watching some of my....um...videos/movies with their kiddies around. LOL

Same at Starbucks, they would ask me to pullleeeeze leave, LOL.

Most hotels do not have free wifi except for frequent and VIP guests. Otherwise you pay by the hour at worst and flat fee (pretty high) for daily at best.

Don't want to have to even bother with that, or go to the hassle of removing apps and files to make room for something else. So while 16GB isn't a TON of space, it will minimize the hassles associated with devices with less storage.

Traded in an iPod Nano, a few games, and a memory card. Was able to get the 16GB model for the price of 8GB as it came to $204 and some change. Could not pass that up. With the money I saved I'll purchase accessories. While the Cloud/ Drive are great storage options, without 3G/4G connectivity, WiFi won't be available everywhere you go (unless you have tethering; than again, that depends if you have connectivity to a network as some areas will give poor or no connectivity at all). So being able to store some of my music on the tablet will be great for when I cannot access it via Cloud/Drive.
