I lost my Ma over four years ago. I can still remember the last night I saw her alive in the hospital, like it was yesterday.

Ever since then I keep asking myself, "What's the point of celebrating Christmas when everything you hold most dear is gone?"

I treated Christmas last year as just another day, and I don't expect it to be any different this year.

And it looks like I'm gonna be right, once again.

Christmas...isn't just another day....and I don't mean anything religious....I'm guessing she wouldn't want you to feel that way either...Know what helps me sometimes? giving...that's what its about anyhow

you could volunteer at a soup kitchen...or shelter...or be a secret santa a nd clean up an elderly persons yard...or leave a lottery ticket willy nilly somewhere...just for fun

@huh, you know what helps sometimes? Nothing. That's really the point of this thread.

Some (of "us") have a hard time during the holiday season for whatever reasons. It doesn't matter. What does matter is that for the most part our feelings are not given any consideration. I am not saying it is done from any malicious intent or out of ignorance, but most people who find the season enjoyable just don't understand that it's okay to NOT enjoy Christmas.

Helping doesn't help.

Just to reiterate. I find less peace and joy during the holidays than at any other time of year. I'm okay with that.

I've got the three A's of the Holidays ... Anxiety, Apprehension and Aggravation.

Soooo... I would like to take this time to examine a Holiday classic. Dan Fogelberg's song "Another Auld Lang Syne".

Met my old lover in the grocery store
The snow was falling Christmas Eve
I stood behind her in the frozen foods...

And was tackled by store security for being a creepy stalker.

I'm sure you all know the song. Why is this depressing diorama of two sad sacks alone on Christmas Eve in a grocery store so beloved at the holidays?

Here's the gist. They were lovers in school, but she dumped him. She ended up marrying for security while she watched the guy she dumped succeed in the recording industry. He gets to relive the pain of who he thought was his love kick him to the curb ... and still no apology. They both just go back to what they were doing, obviously miserably. What a pair of losers.

I know that song! something similar happened to me...only it was in the summer...and Ihe wasn't a big recording star..and I didn't marry for security...(obviously as he is 91/2 years younger than I and was in his very early twenty's) what was I thinking????hahaha!!! but I digress....wait...what? oh yeah..sometimes it's just not meant to be..
also Whilst I'm talking old englishy weird... Celebrate me home by Kenny Loggins is one of my favorite all time songs and they only play it on the radio during the Holidays....so that's just stupid if you ask me!! Stupid radio people..bah!

plus I guess I just like the music..kinda Rand B...esp the .piano..harmony and rounds...ugh.....hubby's gonna KILL me! because after writing that about the song I've been listening to it ...and ..i already talked to him about rescuing another dog..which he totally would..he has a big heart.but he said maybe not the right time now...and he's right....and I agreed but...pshhhh is there ever a right time?? I think not....so I'm pretty sure I'm gonna do it anyway:0

ugh....There is for sure someone out there who belongs in this family...a missing piece if you will...hubby thinks its a person...foster or adopt..an older child who needs us...I think it's both....

Chase and Adam (my 2 boys ) are all for it) always have been...We've always had that in our hearts for a long long time....

but I'm the Mom...and it's pretty much all on me..and I'm just now tasting a little freedom..whoops!!!!Im babbling in the hum bug thread!!!
