The BIG 2.1 Thread

It is much much nicer than the old one. You will have 2 listed unless your phone is rooted. Not a big deal to me I just replaced my desktop shortcut. Also when you go to open an image it asks you what you want your default app to be.

Runs very nicely. I am actually very impressed with it.

Thats what i was thinking i will give it a try thank you!

Guess I'll have to give it a shot. This is bound to be closed soon though as we're technically not supposed to post links to this - Google hasn't officially released 2.1 yet.

I noticed that it takes a little while to cache all of the picture thumbnails, but after that, it is blazing fast. Love being able to swipe left/right to move between pictures. How this was overlooked in the 2.0 version is beyond me.

Toyed with it for a bit. This is so much nicer than the 2.0/2.0.1 gallery.

Is anyone able to get to a menu? When I hit the menu key it always selects the bottom left photo/folder and then gives me a menu as if I selected it.

maybe there is no menu for the "gallery" view. For an individual picture, I get a menu.

It appears that pressing the menu button twice in the "gallery" view behaves the same as long pressing on a photo or a folder, except it appears to randomly select one.

I think that's broken, but it's not "official" software so I can't really complain much.

Why would this thread get deleted, its open source, were not pirating software from anyone.

Because it hasn't officially been released yet. I'm pretty sure the thread with the Google News & Weather widget from 2.1 was closed for that very reason.

That is one misconception. Android, the OS, is open-source. The applications for it are not, unless the developer wants them to be. These applications were developed by Google, the same way that we develop applications to put on the Market. They are closed-source unless Google makes them open-source.

None of the default applications are open-source.

I love the app...I did notice that when playing videos that i recorded using the Droid, the playback was choppy using the new Gallery app. When I switch back to the old gallery and play the same file I have no issues...I even got a couple force close messages when playing back the files. Anyone else experience this?

I would like to hear from somebody that is running a rooted 2.1 DROID to see if the Gallery acts the same way in 2.1. Either it's a bug with the port to 2.0, or it's a bug in the 2.1 Gallery.

ok I just copied this over to my memory card and Astro shows the details as com.cooliris.media version 1.1.30682 - the original 2.0.1 Gallery file shows as com.android.gallery version 2.0.1

I love this forum... And this phone. This gallery app is finally polished enough to show people photos on the Droid. I was a bit embarrassed showing photos to my iPhone buddies before.

Oh ... this is totally SICK WICKED STOOPEED COOL!

Ya see! Google knows that they're doing. They give us a piece-o-crap at first. Then they look like ROCK STARZ when they release the real deal. :D
