THE Browser for X

I was using xScope for a while, that is until I downloaded the "Update" which was for version 6, I believe. It got rid of xScope from my DX (uninstalled?) and I lost my bookmarks as a consequence...what a piece of sh**. I'm back to the stock browser now which works OK, I may look into Dolphin and others.

You can download the old paid version of xScope at xChange. That's what I use. I tried the new xScope 6 and wasn't a fan either so went back. I'm pleased now.

love the stock browser, with 2.2 they even added the chrome javascript engine and of course it supports flash. The only browser that should be faster is skyfire and it's not by much.

All you needed to do was save the bookmarks to your SD card prior to upgrading. I read that somewhere before I upgraded and it worked great. But I understand how it would stink if you lost all your bookmarks.

Yeah, The update was through syncing with Appbrain, and its my bad for getting into the habit of hitting the sync button without reading all the info associated with each upgrade. But now that I've rebuilt all my links via the stock browser I'll just stay with it for now. I wasn't aware of the necessity to save bookmarks before the xScope Update - again, my bad.

Thanks for pointing it out though.

I have been using this since the new version was announced. The latest version of xscope is the only browser that I have tried (Dolphin, Opera, Skyfire, firefox) that could hold a candle to the stock browser in speed. I have had zero problems with it and I love that you can actually close it via a button rather than having to back out. I plan to upgrade to the paid version this week. This is my browser of choice now.

Skyfire was NOT faster on my Droid X. Xscope however is as fast or faster then stock with more features.

I just bought the new version yesterday after using it for a while. I really like the look and speed of it so far. Only complaints I have are a few things take more than one or two clicks to get to that could have easily been put on the bottom bar. Thats just a personal gripe though.

The other thing is the zooming. I don't personally like to have it zoomed in by default, so I set it to .5 on the "New page zoom scale." The problem is you can't double tap to get it zoomed in to a point where you can read it. Although according to the latest update, the zooming is the next thing hes working on.

I had not problems with the stock before(and still like the zooming better on it atm), but over all I like the interface and speed of xscope a lot more. Happy that the dev seems to update frequently as well.

OK...so I get onto the forum looking for a way to download movies to my X and/or computer. I found a site with movies to watch on my Droid. The app suggested Dolphin as a browser and to stream the movie I need Rockplayer. I do this, then I wonder how do I get the Movie to stream from the X to my TV by way of the HDMI cable (don"t know how to yet).
I find this post and try Xscope...I've got to say "I'm floored". Not only is the browser nice (from what I saw so far). But when I opened the site with the movies it gave me the option to preview or "download".
Within 5 minutes I had the first 30 mins of the movie downloaded to my X. I copied to my PC, viewed it works great.
I still need to find out how to watch TV and Movies from the X to my TV through the HDMI cable. (Things that I record will play to the TV) Any apps for this.

I have had xscope for around a year maybe more. I liked it at first. I then went ahead and paid for the app. I don't mind using it but find myself using the OEM browser most of the time.
The biggest issue I have with Xscope is passwords. I can never sign into anything that requires a password. I would find myself using my laptop, then I tried the stock browser and it handles passwords fine.
The problem is with Xscope, I have checked settings to see if there is something I could change there, there is not. For me with Xscope putting in a password always, everytime comes back with wrong password. So I use the OEM browser. I wish now that I had not paid for this app, but it is long past worrying about that now. I refuse to delete the app since I paid for it, but for me it is virtually useless.

Very strange. It remembers my passwords for EVERYTHING and I have never had a single issue.

I would try uninstalling it and reinstalling it.

Do yourselves a favor, download xscope and dolphin mini.

Load up the Same page on both browsers, zoom in and out and move up and down..

Xscope stinks and is slow.

tried several, settled on miren: it's fast and tight. has full screen ability. hate stock browser. I always felt google's browser deliberately would not find certain apps that had been removed from the market but were available online. miren.

I've tried stock, both Dolphin HD and Mini, Miren and now Xscope and I'm finding myself using Xscope the most lately. It's super fast on my DX and I like the ability to swipe back and forth between multiple tabs, page views with or without notification bar with tabs still showing and full screen with no tabs. Also, built in file explorer. For me, it seems more intuitive as I'm navigating around without hitting any wrong buttons like I do with the other browsers. Zooming could be improved a bit, but otherwise I really like the Xscope browser.

Choppy != slow.

Frankly, I don't spend my time oohing and aahing at the scrolling/zooming. Scrolling and zooming are there to get you to a destination, not as eye candy.

Dolphin Mini's interface blows. No way to import bookmarks, no way to set a default action for long presses, no way to cause new tabs to open in the background... Want to talk about slow? Let's talk about usability making the whole experience slow. Choppier scrolling doesn't slow me down at all but having to import a couple dozen bookmarks one by one is a pain in the ass, and having to tap twice more just to get a tab open (extra tap once the menu opens on "...in new tab", then tap back on the tab I started on so I can finish there) is ridiculous. The whole UI is full of these decisions - like it's no big deal to tap more or press more buttons.

Everyone has a different preference and I'm sure many love Dolphin Mini. But lets not delude ourselves about the importance and impact of smooth scrolling.

Forget Opera. Forget Dolphin. It is most definitely all about xScope. xScope is a browser that I only just heard about today. When it first came out, it was powerful, but its simple looks led to it being criminally overlooked. Now, it is by far the sexiest browser available, and the most functional too. If you're looking for the browser to bring an iPhone-like experience to your X, this is it.

If you are a Chrome user on your PC (you should be), you will love xScope. Chrome is all about being crazy powerful while being lightning fast and having a simple, streamlined interface. xScope embodies these principals more fully than any other browser.

xScope features a brand new way to zoom. Double tap and hold, then move left or right to move out or out. Pinch zooming is also available. Both of these methods provide the cleanest zooming of any browser. This is true continuously scaling browsing at its best.

When viewing a single page, xScope can be set to have no visible interface. That means no tab bar at the top, no address bar, and no notification bar. This setting makes the Droid X screen shine oh so brightly. The experience is truly reminiscent of browsing on an Apple device, and you know that's a good thing. Of course, sometimes you need an address bar, so you just swipe down from the top of the screen and it shows up. Another swipe pulls your notification bar back down, and, of course, you swipe down to unfurl that. This successive swiping may sound redundant, but it's very intuitive and a little bit fun.

Long pressing a link causes it to open in a new tab. You can swap between tabs with horizontal swipes. The swiping is rotary, so the direction you swipe is not critical. You can also change tabs by tapping between them at the top of the screen, of course. Tabs are closed by going to the tab page you want to close and then tapping its tab icon at the top of the screen. The closing animation is quite pleasant, again, think Apple.

Oh, and did I mention xScope is hella fast?

Seriously, this browser could have come directly from Google or Apple and it wouldn't be surprising at all. There are still a bunch of slick features that I didn't even mention. But don't take my word for it, try it yourself!

Be sure to look at the tutorial to learn how to fully utilize xScope.

I feel violated

I might have been more inclined to try it if the original post had not kept referring to the iHone like it was some kind of mana.
