Well, honestly I wouldn't worry a bit about unrooting it.
Now its time to have fun and flash some roms for it....and there are alot
See the sticky in the forum we are in....Ocn has a "List" of roms etc up there.
And if you need help to flash a rom, just start a new thread...we'll be there

Hello everyone,
New to the forums and by no means an Android expert.
I've got an EVO 4G unlocked, S-ON, HBoot 2.18, latest TWRP, I put CyanMobile 5.1 on it a couple of months ago. Ever since it has functioned properly but I have been unable to flash any new ROMs or upgrade to any of the new versions of this ROM. Basically it has been stuck on this ROM and won't let me flash anything else. Even tried to change to Amon Ra recovery and couldn;t do that either. Last fall, when i first rooted, I was able to flash a couple of different ROMs but once I flashed this one it's been stuck.
There a couple of quirks in this ROM that annoy me so I've been trying to change it for a while now. At any rate, in desperation, I've tried everything and today have finally gotten to the point that it won't boot past the white HTC EVO 4g screen.
I am trying to follow the unrooting guide above but to of the links to files on TheMikMiks sight are broken. Can anyone help out with an alternative source for the flash_image.zip and the mtd-eng.zip files?
Until today this was just an annoyance but now i have no functioning phone and really need to try and unbrick it asap.
Any help or guidance is greatly appreciated.
Oh, if it makes any difference, I think I used a modification of the Taco root method found on XDA to unlock it.

Yes, at this point just get it functioning but I think ultimately unroot.
Yes, I can get into the bootloader and recovery. I've tried flashing another ROM since it started sticking on the initial white screen and it failed in TWRP.

I'll have a look at the recovery install method.
I've tried the multiple wipe thing and it says wipe failed usually on the second but always by the third.attempt.
Sorry I haven't recorded at what point the failures occur. I attempt again and report back but it may be a bit. I've a couple of appointments this am.

are you wiping dalvik cache, cache and data(or system) before flashing a rom? twrp never worked for me on my og evo....the earlier twrp recoveries almost bricked my phone.....so i have stayed away from them.
i have the files and will update the op when i get a chance, but i think it is not necessary to unroot.....you have all the tools to fix your issue without unrooting.
if you can try and switch to amon ra or smelkus recovery. i know you said you had issues switching in the past. lets try again and see what happens. there are several methods to switching, which one's have you tried? the rooting guide in the htc dev method has instructions on the various ways to get or switch recoveries, if you need more info.

Yes, I have tried wiping everything except the card multiple times. I just occurred to me that doing that complete a wipe and trying to repeat it might be the reason I have gotten failed wipes on 2nd and 3rd attempts.
I will try and us the method in the guide to flash a new recovery and report back.
Is there a current prefered recovery for the OG EVO?

Amon ra or smelkus is preferred.......if you are talking about super wipe......you need to manually wipe as well. Super wrote can be used in addition to wiping.....never rely on it alone.

That did the trick! Well, I guess I should more specifically, flashing smelkus recovery Using abd from the PC did it. Everything flashes fine now and have switched ROMs.
I'm sure you hear often buy, you saved me thanks a million!
Still unsure as to why it wouldn't let me switch to amon ra before but am rollin smooth now thanks to your help.

were you trying to do the PC36IMG method? if so, then the file needs to be named exactly or it will not find it.....also it needs to be on a sd card that is bigger then 2g.
but anyways, CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had tried the PC36IMG method to no avail. It was named correctly but the flash would fail every time no matter how or what I attempted to flash. I had not gone back to the PC and flashing through abd.
I tried The Captain's rooted Stock 2.3 but was gonna ask for suggestions for a solid ROM with all functionality and superior battery life.

well if you want sense then mikg3.11 is the best, but if you want to get away from sense then try aosp....deck's reloaded is probably the best rom out there for the og evo period. http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/618281-list-utilities-apps-roms-kernels-og-evo.html check out the staff picks for more suggestions.
