The Coolest Things You Did With Your LG Optimus V!

"Coolest thing" as in software/ROM/otherwise intangible, or Coolest tangible use/application of the phone itself (vibrator...? oooh i just remembered i used the compass once to point my neighbor's DTV satellite after a big storm blew a trash can into it and knocked it wonky.)

i'm pretty sure i'm not thinking clearly right now...

Using it in the delivery room the day my son was born. I had my OV in one hand, and my wife's Wildfire S in the other. Wound up taking more pictures with her phone than mine, she's got a better camera.

I have a Spanish and King james bible with a concordance/Vines installed.
Helping people to possibly gain EVERLASTING LIFE is the coolest thing I could ever imagine using this phone for.

I suppose i'll drop this on the thread... it seems worthy, albeit wordy.

<tldr> evernote is the best way to track seizure activity. period. </tldr>

<pseudo-kinda-somewhat-long-rant>
I have epilepsy. Uber Epilepsy. ~1000-1500 seizures a year epilepsy. Trouble is, due to chronic loserism (no driving, etc.) very few are witnessed. holier-than-thou doctors and SSDI examiners have given me crap in the past for not keeping good enough track of my seizures. It's like telling deaf person they don't keep good enough track of their deafness. It's CHRONIC. It is ALWAYS effecting me in some way.

Enter Evernote. I had plenty of reasons to get myself this phone for christmas (first smartphone). Evernote was not on that list. It was an unplanned bonus. It is ultimately the most practical (read: coolest) feature i've gotten. I now have... *goes and counts* 171 post-seizure voice recordings taken over the last 37 days. Some of which i don't even remember taking. I'd say 95% of my seizures are/will be well documented, rather than forgotten or written down in an incomplete manner and/or lost. Did i mention that my seizures cause memory blackouts of 1-3 hours or more? There's a window of maybe 2-5 min afterwards in which i can document it. Talking is *much* easier than writing after a seizure, and i don't have to worry about the date/time: evernote does that for me. And i don't have to find a pen/paper, nor do i have to worry about losing it. (and yes, i've tried various tape/digital voice recorders... none have worked out for various reasons. i always have my phone on me, accidental recordings being very commonplace keeping a recorder in my pocket, bulk, battery life, transcribing type junk, etc etc etc.)

Anyhoo... Next time i see the neurologist, i'm gonna bring up Durable Medical Equipment, and drill it into his brain to mention this to *every* patient he has who could improve their seizure tracking.

That's awesome! So cool to see someone getting real benefits like that. I never would have thought of using a phone to track medical issues, but it's quite brilliant.

On my V, I have URL shortcut to West Wing - Dr. Jacobs - Bible References - Owned by Prez. - YouTube You won’t believe how often that comes in handy.
Interesting how he only refered to the old testement where God was trying to protect the nation of Israel form corrupting influences. The whole world was corrupt, those nations that God had the nation of Israel conqueror were burning there childen in sacrifice to a false god Molech. He was tying to help them so he could be with them and protect them. Because he is Holy,Holy,Holy he can't look at those with unclean hearts toward him, as any rebellion against Gods Law covenent was because of an unpure and corrupt heart toward him. Deuteronomy 23:14; 31:16-17
Jesus and the apostle Paul mentioned changes in our behavior, no more evil for evil and we should love our neighbors as ourselves and forgive men their sins against us. Romams 12:17-21; Matthew 6:14-15; 22:37-40
No more stoning.killing our enemy's,judging/finding fault with others. Instead, we should display the fruitage of the spirit. Galations 5:19-25; John 8:7; Matthew 5:21-2; Matthew 5:38-48.
With my Optimus V I can show people this and way, way more. Thats why I think this is the coolest thing that can be done with this phone. You don't always carry all the things around with you that I mentioned in my first post. You can with this phone.

Not to off track the topic but I was watching a special on medical canibus and a liquid form where the thc has been removed and it was just the other part I can't remember the name it is c something, anyway they showed a child using that to treat epilepsy and pretty much stopped the seizures. It doesn't get you high as some use it but it does help and they did it without needing any other meds. I understand the dangers of epilepsy my ex girlfriend who was my best friend passed away from a seizure.

Mine is nowhere near as cool as tracking seizures, but here it is.

My daughter (6th grade) had a school project where she was to produce a short documentary film. She was to interview shopkeepers in a NYC Queens neighbourhood called "Little India". I tagged along as camera/sound operator. I have a decent consumer HD camcorder. As soon as we did the first interview, it was clear that the audio was going to be useless. I quickly whipped my V, downloaded tape-a-talk (audio recorder), set sampling rate to 44.1kHz, 16-bit, started recording and set the phone down right in front of the speakers. I later imported that audio file into iMovie and laid it right over the corresponding video. A little bit of nudging back and forth lined it up perfectly with the original sound that came from camcorder mics. I muted the original audio track and used just the sound from my phone. The difference was night and day. This gave my daughter an idea to do an on-camera announcement in the street, holding the phone like a microphone. The street noise again made the camcorder mic's audio useless, but her voice came so loud and clear on my phone, the shots looked and sounded as if I had a boom operator and a sound engineer on location.

Needless to mention, the app was free...

^That is so awesome! They actually have a film festival in Korea (I think this is only the 2nd year) of short films shot entirely with smartphones. :)

I'm still trying to think of anything I've done with my V that even comes close to being cool... I can think of a lot of dumb things I did when I first got it that y'all might find cool to laugh at, though.

yep :) I believe the flick you speak of is Weed Wars episode 2: the kid's name was Jayden i think ?

Notice: As we all well know, i'm a n00b to this forum. Call me paranoid - I don't intend to ruffle any feathers, but... i'm assuming we're all fairly adult here (plus... he brought it up) ;) But here goes...

*gets on soapbox*

i'm pretty close to having enough dough stashed away to buy a home in colorado and get a card, hopefully sometime this year. it's my unofficial new years' resolution. i've given mj a total of 18 months' worth "trial runs" over about 4 years time and it's consistently an order of magnitude more effective than any RX/Combo i've ever tried (which is a crap-ton). As my epilepsy got worse and worse i started reading more and more about it - i won't bore anyone with the (sadly controversial) details beyond stating that much like a person can have vitamin/mineral type deficiencies, as well as diabetic type stuff - the body produces and uses endocannabinoids in the same manner. They're required for life. Supplementing CBD (cannabidiol) fixes the root of my issue, rather than trying to "interrupt" or "quiet" epileptiform activity. (If you had anemia due to iron deficiency... what would you do ? pretty simple... unless iron was illegal, right ? Then you'd have a choice to suffer or be a felon.) And yeah - it is extremely easy for anyone to extract CBD while leaving THC behind. All it takes is an oven with a reasonably accurate temperature (accurate to ~20f would be sufficient.) and some form of oil. I used coconut oil. Much cheaper than RX overall, too.

But alas - now that i'm on SSDI (it being federal and all) i've had to go back to my "usual" 20-30 seizures a week till the time comes that i get to colorado and have legal representation to back me up.

I've come very close to death twice because of my epilepsy (the second time was very VERY close). It's a very horrifying thing to live through. Once i had a therapist i was seeing for ptsd tell me i wasnt "traumatized enough" for it to "count" - she said, and i quote: "no, i mean something like being in the twin towers on 9/11" - i'm like ummmmmmmmmm uhhhhhhh I almost died, twice. And - I HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING WHEN AND IF IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN.

There i go rambling again :)

You are correct it was that episode. And thank you it is good to know exactly why that works. Being from Southern California I sometimes forget that medical is not available in allot of places.
