The Drone Thread

Have to say I’ve never flown a drone, but I have ridden both motorcycles and... well, ‘nuff said. ;)

Motorcycles are a lot of fun...
OMG:blushDroid::blushDroid::blushDroid:

drones are fun to fly. and are getting easier for the novice to get into. the mavic air 2 has avoidance cameras surrounding the drone to prevent obstacle collisions so it is hard to crash them these days. i have ruined a few drones by running into trees and poles. but $800 for a very sophisticated device is very tempting. but DJI has the mavic 2 thats been out since the end of 2018. there are rumors of the mavic 3 coming out this summer. its price i'm guessing will be around $1500 or more.

i think for now i'm going to wait. i will put my stimulus money into savings and see. i want to see more hands on reviews when they come out and see what the mavic 3 will look like and go from there.

You're spot on, the new Pro, when it comes out will be 1400/1500 easily. 800 for Mavic Air 2 is amazing. But, I've had my OG Mavic for a couple years now and it still works perfectly, and the footage is AMAZING. Speaking of, here is footage from OG Mavic from last June in Aruba

I LOVE my drone, but I would like the added awesomeness of the MUCH better sensor in the Mavic 2 Pro.

technically yes, but most guidelines say you must stay in line of sight of the drone......not that anybody really does this.

Depends on regulations, :p. But as long as you keep line of site, you could visit those parks still, haha.

And they are *mostly* banned from all national parks in US. And Canada laws are SUPER restrictive.

i just saw some side by side comparisons of the mavic 2 pro and the mavic air 2.....it seems like the more expensive drone does take the better picture over all. but i will say this....its close. for half the price????? not bad, not bad at all.

Some smaller differences, but the sensor is where most of difference is at. Pro has top of the line sensor, made by the bests, whose name I don't know off top of head, lol

So do you guys have any good drone suggestions for someone who never flew one before? I recently got a drone for myself and I have been sort of staring at it for the past few weeks unsure what to do with it. It was kind of a heat of the moment type of purchase that we all have from time to time. I was actually online looking for a travel mug that actually would not leak and that was when I came across this really cool blog called buyersimpact.co.uk. They have a really awesome set of articles over there sort of ranking products based on user's feedback. While browsing the blog I came across a post called the best drones on the market and I was a goner. I skimmed through the post and then half an hour later I had a drone ordered. They delivered it a few days later and now I have a drone and honestly no idea how to fly it so any advice would be greatly appreciated

Yes to what Olbriar said.... There are a couple FAA (for the US) sponsored apps that can be relied on. They will have numbers/contact info for the different flying zones.

Also, DJI is THE name in drones. I've heard it said you should start with something that is hard to fly to learn better, but that is bollux. DJI has the best software and hardware, bar none (imo).

Start with a cheaper offering form them, which is still excellent, then upgrade down the line if you feel the need. I've been using the OG Mavic Pro for... almost 4 years now and it still flies perfectly.

What kind of drone is it, if it's a cheaper one you may get frustrated and turned off..as someone mentioned earlier , with the sensors and obstacle avoidance and all the bells and whistles, they can basically fly themselves now...

I've got the dji magic mini, and the dji mini 2 that are BOTH great fun to fly, and have great range, cameras, and functionality...the BEST part about them is that drones weighing more than 250 grams need to be registered with the faa...so theres that👇👇

Nice! I just renewed my FAA registration. Never got around to putting my # on the actual drone though... oops.

I keep my registration in the battery compartment as well. That seems close enough to being compliant for me. I haven't flown since early last summer.... bummer! I should have some time now. I'm looking forward to getting airborne again. I have flown so little that it will be like starting over for me.

^^^ Reported! (I hope they offer rewards like the FBI.) ;)

I think I still have my registration # in the battery compartment even though it has to be on the outside, not that I've had the opportunity to fly recently.
They'll never catch me alive!!!! :)
At one point I feel liek they almost did away with needing registration, regardless of weight. Unless you were doing 107 stuff. Meh, I can't keep up. Haven't flown much at the new place, been here... 9 months now I guess.

Ha! I bet. Need to get up again. Would be cool to get some footage with all the snow out, but probably won't bother until Spring.

A lot of times you have to either give the stuff back or pass it on to the next reviewer. It's not all freebies.
well in the video she was flying the drone in fpv on a fpv drone course and hit one of the obstacles, so i'm guessing she gets to keep it, or maybe she paid for it at a discounted price. she pretty much always gets the latest drone the dji puts out.
