Root The easiest custom splash screen process for all android users

Well, that's what I'm saying...it's a little tedious to set up just to switch one pic. I mean, seriously, there are rooting methods that are easier.

I don't want someone else's splash screen -- I'm a creative person myself. But for the few times I actually see the splash screen, it's not worth the time investment to customize it.

Not that I don't appreciate what you guys are offering here -- it's just my personal opinion of the time investment required for just a splash screen.

I think it all goes to how much you want your Evo to be YOUR Evo. We all invest alot of time in flashing, reading, downloading, etc so for some of us, the little time it takes to set it up and make our own splash screens is no big deal.

hell its more useful than making a boot animation, flashing doesnt affect my splash screen so i dont have to move files everytime i flash a new rom, and i see it just as much as my boot animation. Make a custom splash screen once and its done for life! seems worth 15 minutes to me.

The first time you do it it will be time consuming.. but when you have the formula in your head correctly a new custom splash screen takes no more the 10min to get on you phone

I've got a jpg file - followed all the steps - but every time I flash it the splash screen I get is the androids on skateboards. Not sure what I've done wrong - been working on it for over 4 hours and can't get it to work. Any suggestions and/or help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Placing the PC36IMG.zip in root of sd and then powering off, waiting 30 sec, power on while holding volume button. When it asks if I want to install I say yes then yes again to reboot.

What size is your splash1.img? should be exactly 750 kb, no more, no less. Also is this what your text file says exactly?

modelid: PC3610000
cidnum: SPCS_001
mainver: 3.26.651.6
hbootpreupdate:3
DelCache: 0
DelUserData:0

ok so we know you made a boo boo creating the .bmp file...try those directions again, they are correct... or tell me what you did? the ball was dropped somewhere...480x800 rgb 24 bit depth .bmp file, use the tool to convert .bmp to .img, double check those steps it must be exactly that type of file.

What size is your file as a .bmp? this will give us an indication though i doubt the issue was with the tool.

The bmp is 675kb

In Gimp when you scale the image - what is the x and y resolution supposed to be? Maybe I've done something wrong on the rgb part - there are so many variables when doing the colors. Any hints on the easiest method to confirm mine??

Thank you so much for your help btw!!!!

Okay - so in Gimp I clicked on Image Properties and it says in the color profile that it is sRGB built-in and under that it says Default RGB working space.

I decided to just start over - so I have my jpg that I am modifying - it is at 480x800 x and y = 72. I figured I might as well do it from scratch to figure it out rather than try to fix the other one. :)

issue is still in your bmp. Every single one i create and i just created 5, is 1.09 mb. Lets look into your .bmp file closer...did you set the 24 bit depth?

Well, I started new so haven't saved it as a bmp yet as I wanted to be sure I have the whole x, y and color right....The 24 part comes when I save it right?
Damn I feel like such a noob!

actually its not noobish, lots of people dont know how to do this and never have.

Yes it comes up when you save it.

Ok - so I saved the file as splash.bmp - it is 675kb when I move the mouse cursor over and it just gives a preview of details but if I right click and hit properties it says it is 1.09 mb?!

Also my resolutions are 96 not 72

continue...........to do what? Feel like a complete incompetent? lol Seriously - do you want me to go forward and run the splash screen creator?

set your x and y res at 96 first, supposed to be linked but lets try that

It should be 72 but after turning multiple .img to .bmp with this program they all come out 96...?

Alrighty - fixed that and ran the splash screen creator to create my img file - renamed it splash1.img - that needs to get copied to the folder with the android-info.txt file. Then I zip? Right?

Holy crap holy crap holy crap!!!! It worked!!!!!!!
ducksjps.jpg
Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!! I love my Ducks!!!
