The Gorilla Glass debate ends here.

Hmmmm... Had my X since July 26 and have had it I my pocket with my keys and don't have a single scratch on it. At work I have my store keys on a clip on my belt loop (no im not a janitor but a manager... ohh that rhymes).

Every time I take out my phone to sneak a peek and put it back in my pocket, my work keys tap my screen. Sometimes its a loud tap and I hurry up and look at my screen and no scratches! So whatever it is it's pretty strong so it serves its purpose. BTW... I never put anykind of screen protector on my X!

funny, never dropped mine and before i put a screen pro. on it i got a few minor surface scartches in it.
Same here.

After I could a couple of small scratches, I wound up getting a screen protector.

Since I've had it drop out of my pocket on a bicycle and drop while getting out of the car.

Screen protector actually didn't to too bad in either case and the glass under didn't crack. I did get some very minor damage on the rubberized part on the back and some minor paint loss on the front. No big deal.

I am going to have to lean towards chippy with this one...... but really who cares what it is right? It is what it is and whatever it is its great and can't be changed so why sweat it?

Does it really matter? I've been rollin' with a "Naked" DX in my pocket with NO blemishes to the screen.. Enough said for me...

I have to disagree, I have been rolling with a naked droid x in my pockets and have a noticable 1/2" scratch on the upper left corner visible at any angle. I don't know what could have caused it because I try not to ever put anything in the pocket where I am going to put my phone. I don't think change (coins) could have did it. That would be about the only thing I would forget to remove from my pockets... Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't.

It is definitely quite scratch resistant, but I have noticed a few tiny scratches that you can see in the right light. But hey, that's wear and tear.

Even most forms of "regular" glass are quite hard and resistant to scratching, certainly by things like coins since glass is substantially harder than any metal they put in currency.

However, you know one thing that's everywhere and can scratch glass? Sand. Sand is frequently comprised of quartz which is very hard and it's pretty easy to get a couple grains in a pocket and never know.

edit: if you're interested, look up the Mohs hardness scale. Wikipedia has a fair selection of non-minerals, rated on the scale. You'll see most things above glass on the hardness scale are not metals.

I said scratch, not impact ;)

I know.

I am wondering what substance does manage to create tiny scratches in the GG surfaces on my friend's and co-worker's Droids. One lady does not just toss her phone in her purse, and is always careful with it, but she handed it to me and I tilted it slightly and there they were, little short scratches that would not wipe off, glistening in the light.

My Fascinate has none, so far, and my Eris never did and I had it for 9 months of daily, heavy use, always naked (not me, the Eris ;)).

Have you ever looked in a woman's purse? There's all kinds of crap in there that will scratch screens. My wife did a number on an iPhone pretty good getting on a carnival ride and not realizing in the same pocket was a nail file.

You may have misread my post about her Droid, or perhaps I could have stated it better: she does not toss it in her purse, meaning it's placed in the cell phone pocket of her hand bag, by itself. My wife does the same, but she's got an old LG flip phone; it's just a handy place for a lady to have the cell phone, no rummaging when it's needed.

Mine has quite a few small scratches, and of 15 minutes ago it fell 3 feet, facedown, and now has a cracked screen. The screen did seem to scratch easier than I expected however.

I was going to can this thread since it looked to be going downhill, but there are some pretty good points being brought up. It still seems like the X screen scratches easier than the Droid 1...
