The historic LA fires :(

I seriously doubt it. These fires rage every year... and every year California is warned that they have to clear out the undergrowth to prevent these massive conflagrations. And every year, California says "no, our forests need to remain in their pristine state". Then their pristine forests rage out of control, they're shocked that insurance companies are dropping them like a bad habit, and hit up the rest of us for financial aid! Uh, how about NO?

Conspiracy? No.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department shipped equipment to Ukraine in 2022, and now the Biden administration is working overtime to send the country millions more in handouts as wildfires devastate California.

Perhaps ABC 7 put it best in 2022 when it declared that “all over southern California people are finding ways to keep Ukraine front and center and it’s no different for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.”

The fire department donated its own “surplus” supplies to help a foreign regime and is now caught flat-footed without the capacity to respond to the Pacific Palisades wildfire, which continues to cause deaths and untold damage to thousands of acres of land, including countless homes.

Far-left Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, who is missing in action because she is busy attending an event in yet another foreign country, Ghana, also slashed the Los Angeles Fire Department’s budget by $17.6 million for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. Her initial proposal was $23 million.

Steps to mitigate fire risk are well known, but for years were ignored. Instead of addressing the true causes and hazards, California’s political leadership blamed every big fire on the “climate crisis” and took steps that did nothing to solve the problem. The flawed policies these politicians enacted were supported by special interests who benefited from the subsidies and mandates that were showered on them after every big fire.

A 117-million gallon Los Angeles reservoir was empty when the disastrous fires struck the City of Angels because city leaders scheduled it for maintenance—during fire season. And just a week before the firestorm exploded, Mayor Karen Bass called for nearly $50 million in cuts to the Los Angeles Fire Department—after its chief had already warned that a $7 million reduction to the overtime budget "severely limited" its response to wildfires.

These revelations add to the growing criticisms of Bass and her administration leading up to fires that have been labeled the most devastating in the region’s history.

State Farm's decision reflects a trend of private insurers, including Allstate and Farmers Insurance, of dropping California policies or halting underwriting, leaving homeowners with the choice of getting coverage through the insurer of last resort, the California Fair Access to Insurance Requirements Plan, or FAIR Plan, or forgo insurance altogether. The FAIR Plan provides basic fire insurance coverage for properties in high-risk areas when traditional insurance companies will not.

what does Ukraine have to do with wildfires raging in LA? keep your politics out of this!!!!

and the california policy center is nothing but a ultra-right wing organization designed to fight California Democrats. of course they are going to say bulsh!t about the state they live in. i would not believe anything they have to say.

and the freebeacon????? HAHAHAHA what a load of crap they are as well. if you read that crappy article, Martin Adams, a former chief operator of the DWP, said that even if the reservoir was operatable, it still "would not have saved the day".

ok yes the insurance situation sucks. but that is not the fault of the Democrats

113 firefighters? really? good riddance for not following health protocols. that's ok at least we have inmates who are willing to do their part in controlling the fires.

edit: why do Republicans always blame the Democrats whenever there is a natural disaster like huricanes or in this case wildfires?.......wait hold your thought save it for the politics and current affairs forum.

edit 2: and yes blame should be put on Mayor Karen Bass for budget reductions on wildfires.

and what you folks on the right that like to put the blame on other people forget, is that we had and still having (though not as insane as it was at the start of last Tuesday) a crazy wind event called the Santa Ana Winds. these winds flow from the deserts out into the ocean where normally the oceans bring the winds onshore. these Santa Ana winds bring warm( ok not warm, these winds are cold...LOL) dry air into LA. these winds are quite normal for LA which is why it has been given a name. but what was highly unusual was that these winds brought hurricane forces into LA. some areas reached a cat 2 hurricane force!!!!!

no matter how well maintained the land was a fire could have easily started and burn out of control with winds like that. driving to work that day, i encounter numerous dust storms. it was insane. i have never seen anything like that before here in LA.

and yes things could have been much better. maybe the wildfires could have been better maintained. but blaming the Democrats is just utterly ridiculous. here in LA we are not blaming anybody right now. we are all united in support of all who have been affected by the fires.

anybody who would like to help you can donate here:

It's just a joke bro. Jesus Christ you old people on here kill me. Shit...
Except it's not. Go back up the first page because it pretty much sums things up:
1,000 inmates OMG! WTF?!
No, it's all good, read this.
Kamala lol.
Oh wait, I did read it and wow, what a good idea.

Why does everything have to go right to politics and general idiocy? I was under the delusional impression that there were people here who had a scintilla of empathy for others who are dealing with a disaster of epic proportion. My bad. Blue state, haha, burn in hell and damn the people who just happen to live there because haha—right? I'm beyond annoyed at the abysmal state this forum has sunk to in some respects.

ahhhh try and not take offense to people like @treb1797 and @PitCarver. they just like to stir the pot and keep things cooking here. i for sure do not take @treb1797 seriously.....LOL

edit: who says "bro" anyways???? maybe @treb1797 is a Californian after all.....LMAO!!!!

sorry but Jesse Waters can kiss my ass. he is part of the problem on Fake News.....i mean fox news. looting is not getting out of control and yes there has been looters who have been arrested. but it is not raging out of control as the fake news would like you to believe. and he interviews mel gibson? the crazy actor? yeah that brings truth to situation.

and no these fires would not have been put out in 24 hours. that is completely bullsh!t. talk about fake news!!!!

and he puts an interview of joe rogan....an old one at that. this is the guy that contributed to the fake news of schools putting liter boxes in restrooms for kids who identifies as cats......yeah that guy is legit!!!!

and no that reservoir was under repair. it had no way to contain water at the time.

and i do not remember them yelling about Hawaii false alert about a nuclear attack back in 2018.

and talking about dividing people? he should include himself in that list.

and he is complaining about misinformation! he is the king of that. do not believe anything you see and hear on Fake News. it is complete BS and republicans are the one who are quick to blame the other side. why is he stirring up anger? now is not the time for that.

yes there are some blame to go around. but i doubt that any planning, any advanced preparedness could have reduced the destruction we are seeing especially the Palisade fire. you guys do not know how terrible those winds were on Tuesday and Wednesday. it was winds that we have not seen in over a decade.

and please people stop posting crap from Fake News. i do not believe an ounce of what they say. if it helps them political no matter the consequence, they will say it so long as it benefits the network.....i mean Dominion anybody? need i say more????? they lost all credibility after that stunt!!!!!!

It's my understanding that the COVER was under repair, not the entire reservoir. And I don't watch Fox News either: it's just a link with another perspective. It's hard to blame climate change and misinformation, though, when there is clearly a lot of sheer incompetence to blame from the governor all the way down. And for the mayor to slash the FD budget and skip the country while her city burns to the ground? Maybe she's hoping for asylum in Ghana so she doesn't have to come back and face her constituents.

that maybe so, but that is no reason to slam the Democrats as Fake News always does. the repair was just untimely. no need to blame the Democrats for it. and like i said before, i doubt that even that extra water could have helped much. there was no water pressure for the fire hydrants to supply water. too many were already in use dropping the water pressure to almost nothing. did Fake News mentioned that? NOPE!!!!!!

well that perspective can go to sh!t. blame right now is not helping the situation.

and climate change did play a role in this. here in LA and even in California we have had a very dry winter. no rain since the beginning of last year. we also had one of the hottest summers ever recorded. the combination of a hot summer and a dry winter(so far) in combination of the wind event(Santa Ana winds) created the perfect storm for these fires. and why was that? well it is without a doubt(unless you are a republican who denies climate change is a thing) climate change. it is the main reason why we are having the fires. does Fake News ever mentions that? of course not. they leave that important detail out.

and no governor regardless of party could have prevented what is going on. regardless of politics these fires would have still happened. but i know that whatever i say will not dissuade you from your political beliefs....unfortunately.

and Karen Bass did not skip out of town. she was out of town on Saturday already in Africa. She is not a fortune teller who can see the future. She was able to get a flight into LA on Wednesday. it is not like senator ted cruz who skipped town when his constituents were facing a huricane:Texas Senator Ted Cruz flew to Cancun, Mexico, amid weather crisis. i did not hear you guys bitch and moan about that. at least she returned to help out with the crisis.

This thread should really be in P&CA but that's above my paygrade... nevertheless, @ocnbrze you and I have been on this platform for a LONG time and I won't let a good thing get ripped up over one issue. The truth in it all, despite whatever news media reports (I don't watch ANY of it, it's all narrative), will eventually be revealed. Whether positive steps are enacted to mitigate this sort of disaster in the future remains to be seen.

I think it's really sad that people are agonizing over celebrities' homes being burned up (as if they can't build another one and pay cash for it) - there are so many people who live in LA, entertainment industry or not, who don't have that luxury. I just hope everything works out for them, regardless of where they decide to go.
