The HTC EVO 4G off-topic Banter thread

And why do we keep posting links from oczar? Their links have been sent to banlandia in the other thread.

just for entertainment, clicking refresh and not seeing something at least somewhat entertaining gets tiring...or maybe I should get off the computer once in a while..hmmm

I see your point. But if an alien ship flies across the night sky and drops evos on people's heads it goes in this thread...even if it's from ozcarguide!!! haha

Now, obviously their site is complete garbage, but it does raise interesting topics as far as something stupid to think about to pass the time...

1: holy fingerprints @ 0:24
2: no circles around buttons :D
3: seeing so much i missed looking at these vids with a better understanding of what the phone is and does...

"Right now the carrier does have the largest 4g network". Lol

Stupid banner covering up the circles... Thx 4 pointing that out latinp

1) Yeah it's bad.
2) The circles are really noticeable only when the touch capacitive buttons are lit up, but they are there.
3) I agree and c-net is at least a reliable source, not like Ozcar which gets breaking Evo news every night when his mommy reads him a fairy tale.

Are you autosuggesting there will be none? I feel like someone said that, but it is oh hard for me to distinguish fact from hopes in my less than stellar memory bank...

I still only believe one person has held the actual device that has posted here.

According to what I've been told, whatever ajac held isn't final (or he isn't being truthful)

One or the other.

Okay Folks,
The EVOs have begun landing in users' hands, and many of our forum members have been nice enough to answer questions about the device. I know we're all anxious to get our questions answered, or to announce that we have an EVO, or to gush about its wonderful features.

This is the grand unified thread for that. All "got my EVO" threads have been merged into this one, and please, everyone, try to keep the related talk here.

Got an EVO? Announce it here.
Got an EVO question? Ask it here.

Thank you!

My greatest fears....

I am, like many, anxiously awaiting any new solid information regarding the Evo specs, release/purchase dates and pricing. However, I have concerns as time passes during this waiting period.

The first is all of the speculative information and trying to sift through what information is real, may be real, or total fabrication. It's beginning to run together in my mind now and is causing me to imagine an Evo that may not be reality when it is finally released. I'm trying to stay grounded in the information that is confirmed, but as time passes I find myself including more of the speculative.

The second concern I have is related to the building anticipation and the growing expectations that people will have leading up to the first Evo sales. I am reminded of a time (A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....) when the first Star Wars movie was released. I recall the tremendous reception and accolades after the first showing, lines of people that stretched around the block of those eager to see it. However, I also remember talking to someone who didn't see it until 2-3 months after release and I was shocked when they said they were disappointed, they had expected more. I realized then that what had happened is they had heard so much from the press, so many accolades from family and friends that their "expectations" had been raised to a level beyond reach of the actual movie. My greatest fear for the Evo is that with this period where nothing new is revealed, people will form their own level of unrealistic expectations and will be disappointed when if finally arrives. Even worse is if people put it up on such a high pedestal, that any shortcoming or miscue the phone has will be met with bitter rancor from the media, competitors and yes, some users.

I hope by remembering this is just a phone, with a finite list of capabilities and a finite life before it is eclipsed by the next "great phone", I can keep it in perspective.

Just my thoughts....

I totally get where you're coming from. Many movies have been ruined for me just by listening to so much hype, that I've been let down. For me, the phone is going to be perfect for a while. I'll likely replace it with a phone that has:

SuperAMOLED screen (unless something better comes out) w/ higher resolution.
Longer battery life
Whatever the next version of storage is that will hold more than 32GB
Faster Processor & more memory
1080p (or better)

These are just the things that immediately come to mind. All of them could be in the Evo2 for all I know. I know that Broadcom has a 1080p mobile chip that came out last year and I expect it to be in phones 2Q of 2011 (or sooner).

The screen size is perfect, and 4G is great too. 720p is what most current TV Show rips are, so if it's sufficient for now. Even with all the hype, I don't expect to be let down.

Exactly. Companies are putting out new smart phones every 3-6 months these days so there will always be something better. Thankfully that means that every year there should be a worthy upgrade.

I don't know whether I'm drunk or hungover. Can I be both? Would that defy aristotle's law of contradiction? Is the EVO's snapdragon capable of making sense of this?

I just posted this in "the other thread" before it was closed...

the named web page front page 2nd article refers to EVO release pushed back to "labor days"...

Any idea what this is about?

Dave
