The Inc has one... Why not the X?

So I noticed how many people were upgrading from the Incredible. I wanted to see just how many Xers are upgrading to the GNex?

I will be upgrading from the DX. Have been quite happy with it, particularly since the Gingerbread update... but I'm also sitting on an upgrade!

It's the math--DInc was out well before the DX, so unless you can get a family or other upgrade, most DX's aren't elegible yet.

That said, I have a DX and an eligible upgrade. I'm leaning towards the Razr at the moment becuase I actually need a new phone NOW, and because I've been pretty happy with Moto build quality. And nobody has even been able to explain to me why my life has sucked so much with the DX locked bootloader.... Final decision will be made when I have either unit in hand.

Lol all the Roms and such for the X where a lot harder to get working that they could have been. I can't tell you all the differences since i've only rooted a Dx, but i'm sure someone can :)

What's odd... when I first got my DX (first smartphone), I was going to be eligible for an upgrade in April 2012. Now the VZW site shows I'm already eligible - have been for a month.

Maybe from the developer perspective, but as a user, loading a ROM on a SD card and running bootstrapper wasn't exactly rocket science. And with Gingerblur, I really didn't see any point to ROMs. I was hitting high teens with quadrant, and able to freeze or replace anything stupid. Until my phone broke (my fault), I wasn't even looking at new phones!

Lol.

Ever loaded a custom ROM that was based on a Gingerbread kernel? Make a tiny mistake like selecting to reboot the phone on accident after you wiped but before flashing...too bad. Rather than just booting back into CWM, you have to flash the SBF, which can take a good 20 minutes, then wait forever to load the crap infested Moto stock ROM and wait for Backup Assistant to STFU, then root the phone, then install your bootstrap app, then finally go back and reflash what you want.

Never again. I will not even slightly consider another Motorola phone for putting me through that...locked or unlocked.

Eris > Incredible > Thunderbolt

with a OG Droid, EVO and Fascinate thrown in there as well. I loved my Incredible I think at release it was the phone that really impressed me the most at the time .

Actually, no. I always carefully read the threads, and asked questions so I could avoid bricking. There is a larger point here, though. The DX was ALWAYS promised as a locked BL. It was the arrogance of the hackers that lead people to think it would be unlocked. So, it is kind of bogus to whine about a locked bl you knew about when you bought it.

That said, I agree with your choice, it is your call. Obviously Moto doesn't see it that way. Think about the numbers. All of this massive forum combined is less than one month of android phone sales at a Big Red. So a bunch of angry people here means squat to sales.

Bogus to whine about it, yet they don't give me squat for choices on phones that did have unlocked bootloaders. They have no GOOD reason for it, and apparently they're fine with losing customers because of it. I've owned 6 Motorola phones now, so if they can say they're fine with permanently losing me as a customer they have something wrong with their philosophy.

I'm sitting on an upgrade. I am waiting to confirm:

1. Notification Light
2. Gorilla Glass
3. Noise Cancellation
4. Strong GPS
5. Decent Battery Life

If all are positive, I'll likely upgrade. If not, I will wait for the next greatest phone. I'm really in no rush because my X has been great.

Upgrading fron an X2 (OK, so I'm cheating...Not an original X owner). I have an account with 5 lines that I pay for myself. Thus, I don't feel bad taking upgrades. My X2 will be passed to my brother (OG Droid) and I will get the GNex. I'm not a basher of Moto phones though. I used my OG Droid to death, and I find the X2 to be quite a good phone. I rooted and romed the hell out of my OG Droid, but with the X2, not so much. Not a big choice of roms and the quality isn't at parity with the other phones out there. I'm pretty sure with the Galaxy Nexus, we will see fantastic dev support so I can go back to my old ways.

I'm roughly following your list. It's interesting with all the talk/discussion/arguments about the CPU, your list is more about usability which I agree is more important.

My list includes 32GB memory. If it has that, I'll probably go for the GNex.

The notification light is a go, I just hope it's multicolored.

Gorilla glass can't be manufactured in curved shape, so I doubt that it would come to Galaxy Nexus.

In the Gorilla glass thread, Steven stated it HAS Gorilla glass. Apparently Samsung was asked directly twice and said it indeed has it.

Apparently they can manufacture it in a curved shape now.

I love my DX. It's been a great phone but I want the GN on release day. I got an email a month ago saying that we had an early upgrade.

I had an eris. Liked it for a while. Then my wife upgraded her phone to a D2. It was buy one get one free. Boy in college got the other D2.

Well, I wanted a DX. VZ didn't mention that the free D2 used one of our 2 available upgrades. I wasn't very happy about that. Couldn't stand the leggy eris so I bought a DX on ebay.

I really like my DX, but I really want the SGN. Probably pass the X on to college boy. Like the total google experience idea, plus the timely updates. I'm getting it when I can. No need to hold it first.

I'm planning to upgrade from my DX to the Galaxy Nexus. As the main account holder, I have my final annual upgrade sitting there waiting for me to take it.

DX owner here from day one, July 15, 2010. i will have to see both the Droid Razr and the Galaxy Nexus in my hands and then I'll have to see how they work in my home. I'm supposedly at the edge of Verizon's LTE coverage area in a major city. I want the LTE service to work while I'm at home. I have a serious concern about he Razr not having a replaceable battery. Not sure I could live with that limitation. My Droid X is great but getting slow.
