The Official "Can someone please get us an Update.zip" Thread.

No, that is an Incomplete leak. Everyone says there's no difference, but every other topoc at xda is about how their phone eas bricked by it.

This topic is not about the leak, it is about the LEGIT over the air, no root required update.

Verizon is monitoring this board. If you are primed for capturing the .zip and/or the url for the file - they will blacklist your phone and you won't get the OTA until the last day.

lulz, if they bricked it its because they didnt do it correctly. it is true you would have to root to use that update but im like 99% its the same as the OTA and there is NO incompleteness about it ;)

Really? I did it on two phones. ZERO issues everything functions great. I did not see any topics about bricking. Maybe I got lucky....hmmm

****Just checked and it has also been updated to "Official". It is verified to be legit and people are still installing without issues......Love 2.2 Froyo BTW

right because VZW knows you real name, phone number, ESN number from your screen name

Nope, that is just an RUU - not the OTA file.

No matter what anybody says, the OTA is the only 'official' Froyo for the Incredible. Do you need the 'official' only, or can make do with somebody's file? That is up to you.

seriously? please post links to all of these brick threads.
i have not seen anyone brick using this file.

just fyi the ruu (not the rooted rom file) is official. just another way to deliver it.

who are you to say what is official and what is not.
i trust the development community at xda far more then an anonymous poster at AF.

edit -- the RUU is not "somebody's file". it is a signed rom file from htc. the version is exactly the same as the ota.

To be fair I have seen one person brick, but I guarantee it was user error. But I too would like to see ALL these bricked phone posts connected to this OFFICIAL release, well "un-Official"....whatever.

I cant make the RUU work. The utility consistently gives me error 170 or 171 (usb communication). When I used the image on sd card and booted into hboot that didnt work either. It doesnt pick it. Everything is right. File is named right, sdcard is fat32, so I dont know wtf is up. I guess Ill be waiting.

Sigh. Where, on Verizon's website, is the RUU posted for download? Is there a Readme with it, on Verizon's site, that details installation? That would make it 'official.'

Does the RUU appear to have the same version numbers as the OTA? Probably, but that doesn't make it 'official.'

The RUU is exactly what is coming over the air. Same build, everything. I even got an e-mail from VZW thanking me for updating my software to Android 2.2.

I installed the ROM with the radio update. Root works great, 2.2 runs fast and flawless. I've tried Frankenrom and SkyRaider but this "stock" ROM is by far the best and most stable. No hiccups or slow downs and everything works flawless. With the other roms i was getting 1100 in quadrant with the "leak" official rom i'm getting 1450. Getting full bars and got rid of all the bloatware. Feels like I have a brand new phone.

I've also gotten 20hrs of battery life without bump charging with the HTC TP2 1500 battery. I averaged 16-17 on 2.1 usually. Not sure if it was a fluke but that was with moderate to heavy internet and a lot of Robo Defense (I'm obsessed) as well as watching NFL Network. I HATE the posts from people saying randomly they get 2 days or something but honestly the official rom with the king overclocked kernal is awesome.

so you would take a file from some random person saying "here is my update.zip" over an authentic htc rom update utility? wow.

have windows 7 64 bit?
not sure why windows is so driver nutty.
there is a thread about this somewhere. i will link it when i find it.

I am also having the usb error 170/171 with the RUU file. Tried many things, including adb driver reinstalls etc and it still doesn't work. And now I cant use HTC Sync anymore after trying all of this, so I am tempted to just wait..

This is going to be the newb question to end all newb questions, but I couldn't find the topic on the xda forums with the RUU and instalation instructions for it. Does anyone have a link?

(ducks bricks)

Wait, it says I have to flash this. I don't want to lose my data :/
Damn, looks like I'm waiting for update.zip like everyone else...

Flashing an update will bring better performance than an "upgrade". You're contacts should stay, u just have to redownload ur applications. Back them up if you're that worried about it.

+1 It has been verified that it will be the official version, so its already out whoever wants it. Its not hard at all and there is no evidence supporting people bricking their phones, I've not heard one person say that, its to easy. Your just flashing a ROM.

So yeah check out the Link "For all those waiting for OTA" you can get it now.

Peace, while I enjoy Froyo :)

Oh yeah Flash works everywhere and its Awesome!
