The Official "Can someone please get us an Update.zip" Thread.

I am also having the usb error 170/171 with the RUU file. Tried many things, including adb driver reinstalls etc and it still doesn't work. And now I cant use HTC Sync anymore after trying all of this, so I am tempted to just wait..

Restart your computer, reboot your phone... run through the steps of the RUU giving about 30 seconds in between each step. Press next, wait 30 seconds, next, wait 30 seconds, until it starts installing. If u get the hboot error, don't touch your phone leave it at the HTC Logo. And reopen the RUU installer and repeat what you just did.

Wait, it says I have to flash this. I don't want to lose my data :/
Damn, looks like I'm waiting for update.zip like everyone else...

You will only lose Text messages, Apps with current data can be backed up with Titanium, Contacts can be backed up with Backup Assistant located in "Settings/ Account and Sync"....

Everything is back to how I had it when I was on 2.1, and I am now on Froyo, Rooted, and having fun...

Hope that helps.

I did Unrekoked 3> unrevoked forever> Update radio> Flash Virtuous rom = Rooted Official Froyo with All my data back using Titanium and Backup assistant..

That's right and RUU will wipe your phone clean. If you don't know what you're doing or don't understand it just wait. That's the best and safest solution. ;) Either way you should back up your phone on a regular basis. Especially before you get your OTA notice. Anything can happen, anything. Shoot I tend to backup anywhere from daily to weekly. (My last Motorala created a paranoia for me)

You can do RUU, or Flash the Virtuous Rom which is the Offical Froyo Leak which you can do with these 2 links.

[ROM] Virtuous v2.3 (8/29/10): Stock Sense/Froyo v3.21.605.1 w/Fixes & Enhancements - xda-developers

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=760651

These 2 links are all you need to go to Froyo Rooted

Apps, no. Settings, no. What will be backed up is anything synced to a google account.

-Nkk <-- 2.2 a la CM6 RC3 and lovin' it :)

Yeah I'm just waiting for aiccucs to put out his newest rom based on that. Just easier that way. Though I have thought about flashing virtuous.

You can have Virtuous now, and Wait for him to release his rom later while enjoying Froyo.. Win-WIN :D

No, that is an Incomplete leak. Everyone says there's no difference, but every other topoc at xda is about how their phone eas bricked by it.

This topic is not about the leak, it is about the LEGIT over the air, no root required update.

Sorry no, you are uninformed. It was created out of the rom.zip included in the RUU. There's nothing incomplete about it.

Flashing an update will bring better performance than an "upgrade". You're contacts should stay, u just have to redownload ur applications. Back them up if you're that worried about it.

Won't it void my warrenty if its anything but update.zip?

yes ruu will wipe everything and you have to start over.
update will not do that but you will end up wiping anyway because it will run like crap with all the 2.1 settings still there.

so there's no update.zip? the only issue I have is the whole Error 170, I'm running Win 7 64 bit and this is a bitch to deal with.

Another newb question, but I just searched that entire topic at xda and saw no instructions on how to do this. I'm assuming, since its xda, they all already know what their doing. Can someone point me to a tutorial? Update.zip is all I know, and this is clearly more complicated than that...

1. When/if you see the notification that you have an update available -- stop everything and run the aLogcat app.

2. Send the log file to yourself via email (that's built into the app)

Look through the log file on your computer, searching for a URL

3. Try any URL's that you find on your computer's browser

When you find one that downloads a zip file, save the zip file to your computer

4. Shout from the rooftops, and share that URL

5.Then upload and mirror it somewhere

(Thanks to the xda forums for the info!)

This guy has the right idea, I'm pretty surprised no one has done this yet. I definitely will if it hits me any time soon.

well only some people have issues... its all driver problems with win7.
all that is NORMALLY necessary is to run the .exe and follow the instructions.
if you get a connection error then windows is playing games with you.

Why does flashing an update give better performance than an upgrade? This doesn't make sense to me. If the upgrade is replacing the same files as the flashed update and just reinstalling the unchanged files all should come out the same. What am I missing? The hassle of re-setting up my home screens is almost enough to make me wait for the OTA but if there really is a performance improvement from flashing I might be willing to do it.
