The Official "Can someone please get us an Update.zip" Thread.

ok....i take NO RESPONSIBILITY IF THIS MESSES UP YOU PHONE IN ANY WAY:
BTW, i'm stealing this from another post/poster:

Copy this zip file to your sdcard, renaming it to update.zip.
Now power down your phone.
Hold DOWN volume and power to get to HBOOT. It will do its scanning thing. If you still have the RUU on there, say NO to updating and NO to rebooting. Once you get to the menu with fastboot, recovery, etc

I gave up and used the RUU file, but I'm interested as well. Specifically because I want to know if there really were any differences between the two after all.

Exactly why I waited for the OTA. It seems it's being pushed to everyone NOW. There are a lot of people (myself included) who have reported getting it tonight.

well, i just looked through the zip file, and it has all the apk files for the bloatware and apps found in the real deal update such as the flashlight app, amazon mp3, app sharing, and vz navigator.

Is the roming profile on this update.zip up to date? The RUU had a different version than the ota. If I remember correctly that was the only difference with the RUU

Seeing as there was an "update file" thread started with a link to the update file, i merged it into here. where the request was initially made for the update file.

I downloaded the update.zip from Android Central Forums and installed it. It worked wonderfully!

I downloaded the zip.
Renamed and placed in root dir of sdcard
Booted to recovery
Chose update from sdcard, and the rest is history!

Does installing the update.zip instead of the RUU not wipe the phone?

I assume it is similar (nearly identical) to getting the update via OTA, in that it doesn't wipe any apps or settings, doesn't require root, doesn't void any warranty, doesn't preclude getting auto updates OTA later, etc. Can someone confirm this is true?

Cheers

Yes, this doesn't wipe, it is virtually the same thing as the OTA but you are telling it when to update instead of waiting like chump.

Shocker.

That's what we've been telling all of you for the past 5 days. The RUU and OTA are EXACTLY the same.

Listen... buddy... we understand that they are more or less the same thing. But what you need to understand is that some of us don't want to have to wipe our phones and reinstall everything. So, please drop the "told ya so" attitude, it's only making you look like a jackass.

Correct, someone who received the OTA found the link to the update.zip and shared. So this is the exact same thing.

seriously pal, take chill pill, we don't care what you say, we do what we want, why do you even care?
