The Official "Can someone please get us an Update.zip" Thread.

You can pull the rom.zip from the 1.22.605.2 RUU to get to that version, will wipe everything, but at least you can then use the 2.2 OTA update .zip to get official.

This won't work because the OTA update servers are doing the 2.2 OTA. it won't push an old OTA esp. with all the clutter pushing this out. He can either update doing the RUU method I posted, OR wait for the OTA which he will get the 2.2 notice for. not 2.1

I see, well he should be able to download the old update just about anywhere, like from megaupload or something.

That version is old and you cannot use the official 2.2 update.zip without being on the latest software. I wrote up a guide man. Enjoy.

INSTRUCTIONS GETTING TO UP-TO-DATE 2.1 1.22.605.2

1) download the last 2.1 RUU from here - Index of /shipped/Incredible

2) open the RUU, don't use it though, just open it

3) go to start menu, search programs and files, and type "%TEMP%"

4) Now You'll see a bunch of folders that are named like this "{6D62E500-13A0-40F7-966B-A84B121949CA}"

5) click through them until you find another folder like "{6D62E500-13A0-40F7-966B-A84B121949CA}" and click in that and find a file called "ROM.zip" - Once you find this, click out of the RUU.

6) Now, rename this "ROM.zip" to "PB31IMG.zip" and put on the root of the SD card.

7) Power down the phone, turn back on by holding vol - down, and power to get into HBOOT.

8) When it asks if you want to update, click yes.

9) Let it do it's thing.

I just unrooted from the 2.2RUU and did this, works great, and it IS different, this has the up to date gmail the RUU doesnt, there could be other things different as well!, now we just need to wait for the awesome devs to make roms based on this! and its "OFFICIAL"!!! lolz
So the updated gmail app I got with the ruu is my imagination

I did the update, it looked like everything was going fine, but during the first reboot where it gave me the "droid" audio, I was stuck looking at the "Eye of Sauron" and had to remove the battery to reboot.

I waited a few minutes here, but maybe I didn't wait long enough? This is the only time I did something that might have been wrong. After reboot, I had the same problem, hung in the same place.

I went back to hboot menu to repeat the process, and in it's scan (before I could go into recovery menu), it said "No Image" or something...and started doing something, finishing at a recovery type screen (just a picture), not the hboot menu. Then I pressed Power and Up, and got the recovery menu. It also said, installation interrupted, status 7

Not sure, but looks like somehow something didn't finish the first time around! :( I didn't pre-emptively reboot or anything, and I have a stock system, never rooted or anything.

I applied the update again, this one seems to have taken :) And I didn't have to wait too long looking at the eye...but I did have to wait a minute or two there, so have patience...

Anyway, everything seems to have ended well.

Says I am now on 2.2, yay!

The whole thing took about 25 minutes, even with my issues.

I did notice that my Swype stopped working (I am official beta user, will go reload now).

Updated using the update.zip went real smooth now on 2.2 :D. But as soon as the phone booted up I kept getting force closes every 5 seconds for the multi touch keyboard (Droid X). So I switched back to the stock one, is there a way for the Droid X keyboard to work on 2.2?

Same here haha. It is definitely different from the 2.1 gmail app.

lol you guys kill me. YES it is updated from 2.1. but in case you haven't heard of people updating things like ya know, the TWO leaks of the official 2.2 we had before the third was a charm. YA the gmail got updated again. do some searching. and stop hating one everyone for not doing what you do. Just because you do the RUU who cares, other people can do what they want.

DROID! Just got done applying the update, only took 10 minutes or so and seems like everything is good to go. I had a stock phone.

Android Cental has the updiate.zip file. It's the build # 3.21. No root required and it will not wipe your data - according to the posts.

I'm in the middle of downloading the file. It is slow since my connection at work is 1X.

Edit: The download failed over 1X. I had to go the the ONE window on my floor of the building I work in. I got a 3g signal with 2 bars. I downloaded the file, followed the instructions on Android Central and now I got Android 2.2!! No root required and nothing was wiped. Here's the version numbers.

Android 2.2
BaseBand Version 2.15.00.07.28
Build Number 2.21.605.1

Edit2: Here's the Android Central link. http://www.androidcentral.com/how-manually-update-your-incredible-froyo
