The Official "Can someone please get us an Update.zip" Thread.

well, i just looked through the zip file, and it has all the apk files for the bloatware and apps found in the real deal update such as the flashlight app, amazon mp3, app sharing, and vz navigator.
So, can we remove those apk's from the zip file before we do the update? Sounds like an easier way to get rid of the new bloatware than waiting for root.

The old bloatware (cityid, footprints, etc) are in patch/system/app so I'm guessing it won't help to delete those.

Download this file:

UPDATE FILE

Rename to update.zip

Move to the root directory of your sd card
Note: if you use ASTRO, the directory will be named:
/sdcard

Reboot in to HBoot by powering off your phone then powering back up while pressing and holding volume down+power at the same time.

Select "Recovery" by pressing the power button

Once in Recovery press and hold Volume up + Power button

Navigate to "Apply update.zip from SD card" and select it by pressing the power button...it should take a few minutes to load.

Once install is complete, select "Reboot"

Once the phone is rebooted, and starts back up, you will see the new "Droid" launch screen.
Note: this may pause for up to 30-60 seconds and then continue. If it freezes, do a batery pull and power back up. It will pause again and then should go through just fine!

I encourage you to do a battery pull at least 2 times today. The first, being directly after you install and have a successful boot up/run and another at the end of the day. This will clear the system cache and speed things up.

Good luck,

If you touch the zip file, the signature on it will no longer validate and you won't be able to apply it.

updated via the direct link from google... I just let it run, no battery pull.

Thanks guys, I'm happy to have my true "Droid" boot animation now.

can this be done over a rooted 2.1 phone?

I must be doing something wrong because it kept saying invalid entry..installation abort. I downloaded the file, renamed it to update.zip, moved it to the SDcard root. So its not in any folder or other extensions...its just SDcard/update.zip. I followed the rest of the instructions and when it got to apply from SDcard....nothing. it kept saying invalid entry, installation abort.

Ok.. I'm driving myself nuts here trying to follow along and figure out what I need to do..

I have an unrooted DInc, the only change/modification I made was updating the the 2.x radio a few weeks back (baseband 2.05.00.06.11).. I also apparently missed the May update since I am on Build 1.36.605.0. So 2 strikes against me...

What do I do in order to clean up and get Froyo (preferably without a clean wipe, but will if I need to).

In order to go back to the 1.x radio, I need S-off? Do I need to root to do that? (I found the Wiki Site, but do I need to do ALL of that.. I never intended to root..?)

My heads going to explode from reading and trying to understand 3 levels of what I need to do.. Ugh

I think we may be in the same boat, the radio update gave you the HotSpot and new droid splash screen right? I am having the same error trying to use the update.zip By the way I have build 1.36.605.0 too and I have the may update. I think our only issue may be the radio update.
Edit: I have asked several times if anyone had this leaked OTA update from July and were able to get the 2.2 OTA.

Thanks Steel!
As an FYI this link has been posted many times so don't be surprised if this gets locked or merged!

Thanks again for sharing!!

i found the rom.zip file and renamed it...placed in the root of sd, powered down to hboot and it started updating. i rebooted and boom, i have 2.2

weirdest thing i guess...

i have

baseband 2.15.00.07.28

software # 3.21.605.1

am i good to go?

hey dude yea thats the 2.2!! your good to go my man.

i have tried to dl it from many places now and it says failure everytime.

I'm sorry to see this, which links have you tried maybe I can find a more reliable one for you, I didn't seem to have any problems, if nothing else we can figure another way to send it to you, hit me up.

I know this was for someone else but every one I tried had failed and I wonder if it is because of the OTA I downloaded and installed from July? I have Baseband 205.00.06.11. I wish someone would reply back whether the leaked OTA in July is compatible with 2.2 OTA. I used the one link above that HazMat used and it did not work either. Says failed aborted.

Does this do something differently than just powering down? Should the pull be done while the phone is on or off?

thanks for the info in this thread, updated my phone and it worked perfectly, everything running smoothly, ect!

flash in the browser is saweeeeet

to those getting the failure errors: rename the file to update.zip before you save it, not after it's been downloaded

I've never had to do this before. It shouldn't matter when you rename it as long as it is named Update.zip Someone already saved it with the long file name so either way you are renaming it. Right?

After studying the fail script, it appears to be something to do with file_getprop("/system/build.prop". "ro.build.fingerprint") E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip (status 7) Installation aborted.
