Oh..... Crap.....

I dropped the file right on the j first. the k next when it failed. still wont open. i see the file after i drop it however i keep getting failed to load.

after i drop it do i have to move it with astro?

Are you telling your phone to unmount the sd card?
When you plug in the phone slide down the notification menu, select charge only...it pops up with options, choose "disk drive".
That unmounts your sd card so that your computer can access it.
Then reverse the steps when you are done.

trying now.

So will the droid life Froyo update stop any other updates from coming to the phone in the future. I am running stock software and am tired of waiting for the update. I dont want to void my warranty though. Would verizon be able to tell if I did the manual update.

nope....installation aborted.;(

I thought i had it this time:(

The file is sitting as what looks like a box(gift) under it it says update. file details say update.zip 1,144bytes

sitting alone in my sdcard.

thoughts?

I was a little nervous about doing this manually cause I'm not very computer savvy, but I just did and its working great! This is such a helpful community! Thanks to everyone for posting tips and for making this thing easy!

I believe that when I'm out tomorrow i'm going to get some real frozen yogurt to celebrate :D

Yea i dont know mind is still not working. I have listed my steps above. I know I did everything right and I know I have the right requirements for Firmware and Baseband...so can someone please who figured it out, help a few of us out.

once this entire process is completed, do you go back in and remove the update.zip file to save on space?

I can't get it either. I'm getting the sdcard error then it status 7 aborts. I don't know what I'm doing wrong here. I made sure the update was named right, formatted the SD card to fat32, did a factory reset on the phone, everything.

Make sure it didn't end up being named update.zip.zip

I had that issue at first. When viewing from my computer it reads update.zip but when you open it, it shows update.zip.zip

I had to rename it to just update to get it to run. It is almost done with the cycle now. I am a bit nervous since I have never rooted a phone nor done a manual update outside of an OTA.

Worked perfectly for me.. anyone use the vcast media manager? I assume there are better apps out there for managing files etc.
