The official lowdown on the LG Connect 4G

Gomez025

Android Enthusiast
The LG Connect has a dual-core processor 1.2GHz plus 1GB of RAM. It's a 4" NOVA screen with corning Gorilla glass with a 5MP rear camera with flash and a VGA face-front camera. No HDMI output. The Connect weighs in at 4.83 oz comparing to the Esteem at 6.06 oz. The dimensions are 4.59"x2.45"x0.46" comparing to the esteem at 5.03"x2.63"x0.53". 4GB eMMC + 1GB RAM on internal memory. Standard battery at 1,540 mAh. Coming mid March. No pricing yet confirmed..

Phew..what do you guys think? I honestly STILL prefer the LG Esteem not because of the HDMI output or extra internal memory but it's great 4.3" screen. I'm a sucker for big screens lol My esteem has never had any problems and I don't think the difference is THAT notable on the processors between the two knowing you can OC the esteem. So my winner between the two would be the ESTEEM :)

plan on getting this once they OC to atleast 1.6 or more. I dont see there being a noticeable difference between the 2 unless they OC to atleast that. Also, the 4.3" TFT to the 4.0" NOVA will be an okay upgrade considering you are going from 4.3" to 4.0" BUT you get the NOVA display so it's an okay upgrade. So really the only differences are going to be the faster phone on heavy applications IF they OC to 1.6GHz or higher, the screen BRIGHTNESS(The display is only 28 PPI more), and the RAM but that's it. I dont need anywhere near that amount of RAM but wouldn't complain about having it, and the processor won't be a ridiculous upgrade except for being able to say I have the latest tech from MPCS. IMO not worth the upgrade of AT LEAST $350 starting out. Staying with the Esteem until it's OC to something that I'll notice a difference with above this beast. Not bashing the phone, just saying with what we, or at least I, have now theres no need to upgrade until we gert some sort of boost from the Connect. WILL be getting it though because u know for a fact it'll be Root, CWM'd, and OC FAST! Excited for it but until then more excited about my new 6 Day old Esteem. Curious as to the confirmation of Mid-March? Has there been new reports of it or no?

Mid March? I heard stores were already getting their promo kits. Normally it's only a couple of weeks after that, but who knows.

Yes you're right in terms of screen resolution upgrade. NOVA would be a nice upgrade...especially from MetroPCS. I know the Connect won't be ROM compatible or root ready out of the box until two or three months later because Verizon is getting this phone after as well....yes Verizon lol My esteem at the moment isn't overclocked YET and it runs perfect! No doubt the connect will be some sort of competetion in internal specs but you can practically make your esteem run "as fast" as the connect with the ROMs and similiar specs. As to the launch, my manager told me it should arrive by the end of March (tax season) and I assume the price will be high-tier like the esteem.

Yes that's true I already have the promo kits lol but the actual phones doesn't arrive like 3-4 weeks after depending on shipping orders. Maybe because they're busy right now with the recent release of the Galaxy Attain 4G. I'll give the attain a good month to break in before people start realizing the connect is coming then their heads will explode lol So hopefully that'll be next month :)

the dual core alone will make a huge diff even @1.2Ghz, that translate to 2.4 when both cores are kicked in. Just think about that old single PC u had compared to a dual core+ now ;)

The 1GB of ram will make a big diff too. Now I dunno if I will ever be able to go back to a screen smaller than 4.3 tho lol.

I'm still waiting on the DX to get its bootloader unlocked so its power can really be unleashed lol.

PG, Dual Core processors arent 2 Cores at "listed speeds". My computer has a Quad Core 1.6GHz processor which means it has 4 cores running at .4GHz per core at all times and then up to 0.6/Core with TurboCore. All of these phones, in example the Galaxy Note has a DC 1.4GHz processor which means each core operates at .7GHz at max... Coming to the point of the Connect running a 1.2GHz DC running each core at .6GHz Max per. So there will NOT be much of a difference at all, no. Not being mean, just informing everyone a VERY common mistake.

As for the old school single core computers, the reason they were slow was because A. They could only execute 1 service/process at 1 time due to the single core vs a DC being able to do 2 services/processes at 1 time and Quad Core executing 4 services/processes at 1 time, AND the Front Side Bus(Basically how fast the connection is/information is sent to/from the rest of the motherboard) was MUCH slowers. For example, the old school computers you think of may be 333MHz FSB or even 533MHz FSB which is slow compared to todays standard. 1GB of RAM will not be of any use to a lot of us due to the fact that with our batteries we do not enjoy many things running in the background anyways so there's not too much of a need for the extra RAM.

A good way to look at DC/QC frequencies is the Frequency(GHz) posted is how many calculations and conversion/second a WHOLE processor can do total/second and not per core/second. you will never see a manufacture post a /Core frequency unless blatently said "Per Core Freq.:x.xx"

Any way we can get comparison photos of them side by side, things like that?

point taken n thanks for the correction, I should have known that or remembered it lol. But my point was the dual core will be more efficient n not work as hard doing the same task as a single core. I know a old single core 3.3 P4 wont touch my AMD 3.3Ghz 6 core cpu. lol

And yea they need to bump the batteries up to 1800mah at least.

Well, can only put so much into a tiny space and from what I have seen so far, 1800mAh is whats the biggest we can get into the stock battery door of our phones but I do agree that they need to try and help us out with better battery life... maybe even integrate some technology like the Tegra 3 with a "Companion" core for VERY VERY VERY little power consumption while idle. IDC how slow my phone is on idle because my is always off while idling so it doesnt bother me LoL. I DO wish they slapped us with an 1800mAh battery too though, it would only give us ~20% better battery life but it would still help. Hey, PG... YGPM

the screen BRIGHTNESS(The display is only 28 PPI more),

The display brightness is 300 nit. The display on the Esteem is nowhere near that bright. Btw, the NOVA display is an IPS panel, that is a big upgrade when it comes to color reproduction and viewing angles.

Coming mid March. No pricing yet confirmed.

Metro has said it is coming out this month.

EDIT: Correction, the brightness is 700 nit.

You have that wrong. Intel processors will drop the speed or even disable cores when TurboBoost kicks in but the cores will be running over 1Ghz each. AMD processors run in pretty much the same way.

Hmmm, that's wierd... LoL the NOVA Display has a 700 nit rating

I'm not talking about at all times for Turbo CORE which is different than TurboBOOST since TurboBOOST is Intel... read up on it, they work in similar ways but in different fashions and yes they can turn cores completely off no doubt... What I am saying there is the potential for running that high. I was trying to pass on a point that a 1.2GHz DC doesn't run each core at 1.2GHz. IDK how computer savvy the people are that are going to be reading so can't go into ridiculous detail LoL

TurboCORE only turns off the extra cores when the program running isn't utilizing all cores, if it is then it will not turn off anything. If on my AMD, a program is utilizing only 2 cores and TurboCORE kicks on, it will disable TurboCORE until the program calls for another 1-2 cores or the stress level goes back down. I do believe on the TurboBoost though because I do not do Intel machines but I know for a fact that TurboCore does turn off cores when all cores are called upon and needed.

Re-read my post, I added information. Turbo Core does not knock the cores down to .4Ghz. In fact all cores will run at the processors rated speed at the same time, they are only down clocked when turbo kicks in. And turbo usually kicks in for single threaded apps where the extra cores do not matter.

I never said .4 after TurboCore LoL. I was just giving a simple example of how to look at DC and QC processors, I am not arguing/debating on who is right HaHa... haven't you ever heard?... "Arguing On The Internet Is Like Running in The Special Olympics... Even If You Win You Are Still ******ed!" I LOVE IT! Kind of mean but it makes me laugh because it's IS true(The arguing part)

I never said .4 after TurboCore LoL.

But you did say that the cores all run at a fraction of the rated processor speed and that they are added together, which is not how speed ratings are calculated. When turbo is not kicked in all cores are running at the processors rated speed. I'm not arguing with you, just pointing out a false statement. However the cores will be down clocked when idle, i.e. when my Phenom II is idle the cores drop to 800Mhz.

My computer has a Quad Core 1.6GHz processor which means it has 4 cores running at .4GHz per core at all times and then up to 0.6/Core with TurboCore.

so will anyone be switching to the connect from the esteem?

I'll probably hold off unless it gets ICS before the Esteem. And since it is a dual-core phone LG will likely be releasing an official ICS update later this year, at least for the Verizon version (and you can bet that will get ported over).

hmm so most likey if the rom for ics comes out for the esteem first would that be a for sure stay for many people on the esteem or wat

LG is not releasing ICS for the Esteem. We'll get ICS when (if?) PG gets CM9 working on the Esteem. So far it boots and that's about it. The touchscreen isn't even usable at this point (very laggy) and none of the radios work.

Yeah. Especially to get rid of any power leak that the phone is secretly doing.

I am getting it can't wait i love my esteem but come on nova display and dual core sounds good to me
