Tried setting up the phone as a remote control last night.

the phone was able to turn on the TV but was not able to sync the cable box to change channels. Went through each code but none worked. Send an email to Samsung with my model number but never heard back.

Anyone else have problems setting theirs up or can help?

Hi Lacit. :wavey: I merged your thread with the WatchON thread. Maybe you can find an answer here.

Is there any way to pair an a/v receiver with a set top/cable box. I can set this to work with a bluray/dvd player, and then control the volume, but I can't make it work with everything. I have all my devices going through the receiver so that I have just one master volume for everything.

I just tried it out for the first time last night. It speaks flawlessly to my TVs (which I expected, as they're Samsung TVs) and ok -- but with a slight delay -- with my Dish box. I was impressed TV-wise that I was able to get it to open the "tools" and set the sleep timer -- somewhat more advanced than just on/off, volume, and channel.

I can't yet figure out what to use this for other than as a novelty. I'm sure someone will figure out some brilliant way to combine this with tasker and to do something neat in the way of TV automation, but I have yet to think of what that might be.

After you select your service provider >> The next step is ‘Choosing correct channel line up’. This is an important step to determine and identify your correct channel listings. Please ensure that you have answered the question correctly. This will help you to set HD channels.
My HD channels are numbered by putting "10" in front of the standard definition channel number (for example, Channel 12 in standard def would be 1012 in Hi def. How do I add the hi-def channels? The remote only lists the standard def channel numbers even though I selected the correct channel lineup

What I actually want is the ability to control everything in the home theater, like the better Logitech controllers do (we have a Logitech 650 which is super handy): cable box, tv, PS3, HDMI switchbox, etc.

To be honest I was hoping that Logitech itself would write an app for Android, but with so few phones or tablets having IR blasters I can't imagine they're in any big rush about it.

Peel makes this as well as other TV apps. I sent their help desk an email asking if there would ever be an S4 version of the "Peel Smart Remote" which I think does most of what I'd like. So we'll see.

Logitech does have a new Android remote control app out...

Harmony Smart Control - Remote for iPad, iPhone & Android - Logitech

It looks like it will do most anything you want with your A/V systems but for the list price of $129.99 I don't see it as a big player any time soon.

Watchon works with my tv and set top box but it wont turn the volume up or down on my surround sound. It will power it on and off though. I think I would use it more if it worked with the volume.

Does anyone know how to access a list of channel guides for the WatchOn app for the S4? I have Mediacom cable and it's plugged into my TV straight from the wall so all the channels are DTV cable. For example, Comedy Central is channel 51-7. What I'm trying to find is the DTV cable listings for Mediacom on WatchOn, but I can't seem to find how to edit the channel guide to pick a different channel listing from the regular cable listing. If you go to this link --http://mediacomtodaylineup.com/lineup/456/chanhassen_deephaven_excelsior_greenwood_hambu.aspx -- the listing I want is the Digital-Ready Family TV (which includes the Digital-Ready Local Plus TV lineup), but the only one that shows up on WatchOn is the Family TV (second listing).

Any ideas?

Right now I don't remember how I did it, but keep digging around, eventually you run across a screen that asks you what device you want to control for sound. The default is TV, but you can switch it to your AV equipment (assuming you've set up the remote to control it, which is sounds like you have).
Sorry I can't be more help right now, but it CAN be done - keep looking. :)

Edit:
Try these steps
Go to 'My Room' (or whatever you've called it)
Under activities select an option (mine has "Watch Comcast Corporation")
Touch "Volume Controlled On"
Select your AV receiver.

That's one of the downsides to WatchOn... The menus aren't very cohesive and finding the right place to go to change or add settings is tricky. Still a way cool app.

I just walked into our lunch room where the remote is usually slathered in pizza grease and setup the TV and local cable in about 30 seconds. Works perfect.

One of the BEST things I've heard about WatchOn (and one that I will definitely be doing) is using it to turn down the volume of a too-loud TV in a restaurant (or wherever).
Add a new room, set up the TV, turn down the volume. :D

Yes, I saw that, but I believe that does not make use of the S4's IR blaster. Instead, you use that app along with a piece of Logitech hardware. The hardware sits on your network, and the app just sends a signal through your network to the hardware, which then sprays out the required IR signal to your gear.

Seems like the S4 plus a very capable app should be able to do it all, including macros, etc.

I have mine set up for a few different room with different TV's and components. Setting up the Favorites of the TV guide could have been easier.

Most fun I've had with the app? I was at a Chevy dealer (in their waiting room) playing with my S4. I was annoyed by their loud TV that had no remote or visible buttons. I added the dealer on (as a room) and I turned it down without any other waiting customers getting wise to my adjustments . LOL

went to best buy....

MANY samsung tv's OFF at once. (didnt try other brands but Sony and was able to blank them too)

I feel criminal (and childish)... My wife was embarrassed for us both.

The only thing it wont control is my samsung dvr box. GO figure.

I already did that when I set it all up, but unfortunately it didnt work. Only the mute button works.

Anyone else who may be on Sky in the UK find only five listings at any given time? I mean out of over 300 channels, we only see 5 suggestions?

Anyone having trouble turning Watchon off? I have it as an icon on the top of my screen and also in my drop down menu as "ongoing"

NM-There is a setting that allows it to show up in the notification bar.

Yes you can add your stereo/AV Receiver system to control the volume but only after pairing your TV and Set top box with the app.

How do you switch the volume so it controls the AV Receiver instead of the TV. I somehow accidentally managed to do it to my phone by pressing the screen mulitple times, although I am trying to set up my partners and am unable to find how I did it. I have gone through the steps so the tv is connected, and the av reciever is set up as a device and it connects and turns it on at the beginning, after that I can no longer access the controls for it. Does anyone have any help?
