It's been a week, and I'm still waiting for my upgrade (UK). I'm running the rooted RC9 build, does that have anything to do with it?

If you are rooted chance are you will not be getting the OTA update. Refer to JustJimJpc signature if you want to unroot your phone

sorrey, this has nothing to do with what you talking about, but which is the best version of "cupcake" or android 1.5

There is but one version as far as we all know. Cupcake/Android 1.5 is just an upgrade to the OS all G1 users currently have, adding the feature set that has been documented many times (no need to rehash it again here.)

I couldn't wait for the OTA anymore. So, last week I rooted my phone and installed jf's 1.5 cupcake build. Best thing I've done.

P.S. I'm eating cupcake as I type this... Wow, it tastes good.

Here is the word from HTC...

There is no way to download the update from the market, or request the MR to be pushed manually. All phones will have the upgrade no later than Monday, May 25.

5% of the G1 population will be offered Cupcake/ Android 1.5 on Monday, May 18th.
15% of the G1 population will be offered Cupcake/ Android 1.5 on Tuesday, May 19th.
30% of the G1 population will be offered Cupcake/ Android 1.5 on Wednesday, May 20th.
45% of the G1 population will be offered Cupcake/ Android 1.5 on Thursday, May 21st.
60% of the G1 population will be offered Cupcake/ Android 1.5 on Friday, May 22nd.
75% of the G1 population will be offered Cupcake/ Android 1.5 on Saturday, May 23rd.
90% of the G1 population will be offered Cupcake/ Android 1.5 on Sunday, May 24th.
100% of the G1 population will be offered Cupcake/ Android 1.5 on Monday, May 25th.

All new devices will receive the OTA three days after activation.

Starts tonight!!! "10% of G1 customers will receive the update to their device sometime this week. By May 31st, the software update should be complete for all G1’s on the network.
****One note about Android 1.5 --- the software update does not include a native Exchange client. There are 2 existing applications in the Market that will support exchange email – they are Moxier Mail and Touchdown for Exchange.
Please keep in mind – the SOC feature must be active for the G1 to receive the update. With any Android software update, the device retains all of the original data, including call log, contacts, email accounts, messages, etc. Please feel free to forward along to your customers or print and post in your store or cubicle. As always, please let me know if you have any questions or need anything from HTC! Thank you for your support in 2009! J

New Features:
Stereo Bluetooth
On-Screen Keyboard
Video Record & Playback
*Spanish Language Support* J!!!!
New Home Screen Widgets
One-touch upload to YouTube & Picasa"

What the hell is the update button for then? It sure made me feel good when RC33 came out. This is a Microsoft tactic, come on google.

I think that button is for if you've been offered the update but say no for some reason. After that, you can check for an update and get it downloaded.

It's not an update button. It literally says "Check for Upgrade". Notice the word check.

It allows you to manually check for an upgrade. The phone routinely does it's own check, but with this button you have the option to run the check when you want to. Depending on how often you check, and how often the phone does it's standard check, you might get an update a few hours earlier than if you waited for the phone to check on it's own.

Omg i hope im one of the first ones to get the update i have my fingers crossed my lucky rabbits foot and i have built my g1 an alter amen..!! Jp

So how would one go about uploading this file when they update?

If there is someone on the forums who is one of the lucky few, send me the zip... I have a server with 1000 TB of bandwidth so I can host it there...

What does SOC stand for? sorry if this is a very dumb question!

Cheers

well whoever they are I hope they are on the forums, does anyone know what type of file is pushed OTA? I mean is there a way for someone just to copy the file from their SD card to their pc and upload it on my server? Or is that not possible with the OTA stuff?

(Not a dumb question) Just means that you have a feature on your account. SOC can be text messaging, caller tunes, or in this case the G1 feature. Only customers who are currently on G1 plan will get the update.

This is the second email I recieved (which you can see both of). If I had to guess... I would say it is .10% today and a total of 5% by the 18th, 10% by the 19th, an so on till the 25th when it will be 100%.

What's considered a new device? Actual brand new out of a box? How about if I did a factory reset on a phone, which makes me re-register it with Google? Would they send me an update within 3 days after that???

Hm......

LEM.
