Evey update the blogs light up with people who get it, different regions, different purchase dates. If there was a pattern AF, Phandroid, or someone else would've figured it out by now. You've asked 12 people in LA. That's not random, nor is it representative, nor is it a large enough sample to observe a pattern. Perhaps if there were only 50 Android phones, and they were all in LA -- your research would be very useful. There are thousands of Android phones, perhaps millions, any sample that's less than a couple hundred to a thousand and covers less than 25 geographic areas in the US isn't enough to tease out a pattern.

Good Answer Punk!! and that is the truth as well as your Statistical Math lesson for today !!

I've had my phone since November 1st AND live in Orange County (just south of L.A.). So if the rumors of it being sent out in LA first are true, then I should get it here in the next few days. I'll be sure to come on here once I do.

actually the quote was "the week of the 11th". So they may not have started yet. They could be waiting until Wednesday, or even Saturday to start sending it out.
Or it's entirely possible that the people who have received 1.5 don't come to this website.

I live in South OC and I don't have it yet, but I was at the T-Mo store today and they said it was released here in OC yesterday. Kinda the same story thats goin around but I have faith...

They aren't I live in Anaheim.....

I was in Chicago on Monday and didn't receive the update, and flew home to Vegas and still haven't received it. I'll post when I do.

I'm going to sleep and when I wake up if I don't see a system update in my notifications I'm going to throw my phone out the window. Nothing from Southern California still.

Yep it has begun, now I'm trying to convince myself I will not be eating cupcake until next week so that way I'm not checking my phone every few minutes for the last 2 days!!! :( So anywayz no luck here in Chicago

Could you please provide a specific address, window location and time when you'd be throwing a G1 out the window? Also, I'd appreciate if you at least put a layer of bubble wrap around it!

Ah... damn... I'm in NY... too far to reach by the morning..... But someone may find that info useful!

Also anyone know the looks of the actual notification icon for system update? Is it the same "shopping bag" icon we get for applications, or different? Or does the message pop-up on a screen? I almost fell out of bed earlier today when software update notification fired up... all for nothing.... But no, I'm not throwing my G1 out the window yet!

LEM.

You will wake up to a screen that tells you you have a new update and asks if you want to install now or later. If you choose later the update can be started by using the check for updates button in settings. I'm from the UK and was updated last week, love my g1 more than ever now.

how long is this update suppose to roll out for? starting on the 11th but going on untill approximately?

i have to be the most impatient chick with a G1 i know every other here is like "omg what is like a cupcakeeee" blows my mind that some people dont even care bout cupcake let alone know lol!

cupcake needs to hit newyork already im tired of this ish lol :p

the update is actually supposed to start to roll out at the end of the week, according to t-mobile website.

"T-Mobile is delighted to announce the upcoming release of Android 1.5 with "Cupcake" coming soon to the T-Mobile G1! We plan to begin sending out the update starting the end of this week. As with previous software maintenance releases, the update will be randomly sent "over the air" to T-Mobile G1 customers. We expect everyone will have their update by the end of May."

so relax for a few days
