I can't seem to root my phone. I downloaded the JF1.5 and renamed it then put it to my SD card. When I try to apply it I get to NO SIGNATURE. Can anybody help me?

Lol...I keep finding little things in the update....

I noticed that you can choose to unmount your phone from the computer when you plug it and mount it....

Maybe I should start posting screenies...

finally gave in and jailbroke my phone =)

I haven't explored that much yet but so far, I'm loving the whole transition animation with the orientation flip. Also, im just so happy i can finally use stereo bluetooth!

Ah. life is good.

I got up this morning to find a "System Update" waiting for me. I finally got Cupcake, so woot! I'm in the UK, South-East London, and my friend who also has a G1 got the update last night. It looks like they're now rolling it out across the UK.

UGH, To be honest am I the only one who doesn't like the theme? It looks cold and boring and metallic. The old interface looked cartoony and fun and warm. The features are good though, the camera update actually makes the camera usable. I wouldn't use the onscreen keyboard, its easier and better to use the qwerty keyboard (but I understand that other devices need it). I want the old interface back :(

Has anyone figured out a way to force to update for US G1's? other than rooting i mean. . .

a member of my G1 facebook group said that he already got his update. . .even tho he didn't post any pictures of proof. . .

There's no way to force the update, but you can more easily check for it.
Download Anycut.

1) Start Anycut
2) Select "create new shortcut"
3) Select "Activity"
4) select "Device Info" from the list.

When you open this new shortcut, scroll to the bottom and tap "check for upgrade".
If there's an upgrade available for your phone, it'll be readily apparent as it will tell you that it's downloading. Otherwise, it will say "CHECKIN_SUCCESS". --That just means it was able to connect and check, but didn't find an update.

Your phone automatically does routine checks for upgrades, this just allows you to make it check manually, whenever you want. So you might get the upgrade a few hours sooner if you obsessively check.;)

Otherwise it's just a matter of it appearing in the pipe for your phone.

Mine is downloading now. I didn't think it would do since i have a Three (UK) sim in it, but its working fine...yipee. I can't wait. much improved battery, and the soft keyboard are getting me all flustered, with my arms flapping everywhere.

EDIT: It has finished downloading and installing etc. It seems more responsive, and also the camera is very fast as many people have mentioned. But, to be fair, I used my phone for about 3 days before the update, so i'm not the best person to try compare the two.

i have noticed absolutely no increase in battery life btw. exactly the same as before cupcake. i get like 2 days out of it with ok use, like internet to check random stuff every now and then, nothing prolonged, and my emails are on auto-sync n i probs get about 20-30 a day.

I have been browsing fairly heavily today (approx 3 hours) plus a few calls and several sms and my battery would normally be down to about 20% but I have 53% left. A definate improvement.

Mine improved after RC33 ... and I have more improvement since I rooted to 1.5

Really? O.o

I would have to say I have an improvement...

Before 1.5 when I used my phone at work...I'd need to charge BEFORE work had finished...

Now...I only need to charge BEFORE I go to bed that night...(and that's at around 2-3am normally)

And it probably even has enough charge for me to leave it over night and charge it first thing in the morning...

And this is pretty heavy use...I use meebo, browse the internet, check e-mails regularly and play various games (all during my work time...yes I know..I'm an awful employee)

Glad to hear some of you are experiencing better battery times then. I only updated today so not sure whether I see any improvement yet.

TWO DAYS? I have to charge my phone at noon after some light surfing, SMS, and emails! If I make one call, I have to charge it at 11am, otherwise it's dead by 5pm. Two days? My God, I wouldn't be complaining about two days. Hell, I'd be dancing in the street.

If I'm not mistaken......

US should be getting their 1.5 updates now as well....

Be sure to post it up here when you receive your update!

i thought i read the update was suppose to start rolling out at the end of this week and not the beginning?

Depends who you ask.

T-mobile official 1.5 FAQ states:

Q: When will these random batches of updates begin to be sent out to customers?

A: We plan to begin sending out the update starting the week of May 11th. As with previous software maintenance releases, the update will be randomly sent "over the air" to T-Mobile G1 customers. We expect everyone will have their update by the end of May.
The week of May 11 has begun.... There's still nearly three full weeks until the end of May... We've got one out of 20 chance of getting it today if T-mo is not lying.... But we're yet to see anyone from those lucky 5% who gets it today......

LEM.
