On a side note...

First impressions are: I'm very impressed...

Polished UI with much nicer icons for apps..
Fantastic features.
Camcorder (Video Recorder) works like a dream. Although I'm not sure if it was because I wasn't talking loud enough but the volume on the videos I made didn't seem very loud...
Google Talk replaces my IM button..
Virtual keyboard is great (I'm actually better than I thought I would be at using the keyboard...I thought I'd suck and make loads of mistakes...)
Orientation seems to be a bit odd...it coudl just be me though...

More to come....when I get a chance to look at it some more...

The browsers different too and the ui for text messages...and wen u pull the notification bar down lovin the lil background

Yeah the new background looks really kool....

And I didn't check the messages tab...but I just did...and you are right...
Looks a lot neater now as well...

AND WE HAVE SMILEYS!!! WOOOO!! I was wondering if we'd ever get them....and we do...little green android-type smileys!! So freaking kool! =D

The browser isn't all that different from what I can see...
 
Just got the OTA update this morning, all the updates are pretty cool however the orientation of the screen doesn't seem to change when I tilt the phone. Has anyone else had a problem with this?

Yeah...you need to turn on the setting...

Settings --> Sound and Display
 
was just about to head to bed and up popped the update! liking it so far. nice UI changes and things seem faster. sad we still aint got latitude though
 
got mine this am. Now have a non-functional browser (steel) chomp sms has no on screen keyboard. i have no 3g or 2g network. the clock is also wrong. T-mobile rep says to do a factory reset as the install is corrupted??

Another new thing I've noticed...

When you press and hold the power button...you can choose to switch airplane mode on and off...
 
Well, I just finished rooting and updating to JF 1.5. I'll have to admit, since I'm not well versed in Linux it was a frightening experience (I'd really hate to brick my phone.)

I have a couple of questions though. I see people remarking about the background of the notification bar being different. Mine looks exactly the same as before. Is this a feature of the OTA update only? I'm confused.

Also, since I reformatted my SD card to flash the updates, should I reformat it back to FAT? Or is it ok to leave it as FAT32??

Other than that, this build looks awesome. I love the keyboard and the music widget. I'm in cupcake heaven!!!!

Edit: One more thing, when I was doing the video tutorial, he held the start button to power off the phone and one of the options was for vibrate mode. I don't have this. What gives?

I have not seen any comments here on AF about Notif_bar being diff...??

Just leave it FAT32 ... it is fine and you may want to install other builds in the future

I dont know about the "vibrate - mode " thing ???
 
I did my root and JF 1.5 Install Yesterday as well. SO FREAKING AWESOME. buuut i thought we would have digital zoom on the camera...guess not anyway love the build!

I suppose this is the only thing I've seen on it. I did notice the background of the apps drawer though, looks awesome.
 
As T-Mobile continues to improve customers' G1 experience, Android 1.5 will begin rolling out to T-Mobile G1 customers the week of May 11. The over-the-air (OTA) update will include many new feature enhancements and updates. The OTA will be sent out in phases with all customers receiving by the end of May. On screen full QWERTY keyboard with dictionary
Video record and playback capabilities
Easy uploading of photos to Picasa and videos to YouTube
Faster camera start-up and image capture
Faster acquisition of GPS location
Smoother page scrolling in Browser
Stereo Bluetooth (A2DP and AVCRP profiles) and auto pairing
In-call keypad timeout - keypad locks instead of displaying a dark screen
Alternate e-mail required on device when creating a new Gmail account
User interface updates and modifications making the G1 easier to use and navigate.

Although customers may have heard an announcement regarding availability of Android 1.5 for the T-Mobile G1 in Europe, T-Mobile USA is working to provide the best customer experience and will begin rolling out Android 1.5 to customers at a later date. Customers and developers can find more information on Android 1.5 on the T-Mobile Forums.
Note: Although customers may have seen workarounds to download a new Android software update, doing so will prevent the Android 1.5 over the air update to be received on customers' G1 devices.

it was on the official t-mobile forum site from an employee of tmo, ironically when i went back to get the url to post it, it was removed for "rule violation" so it makes me think it has some validity
