The one real advantage of the iPhone

Actually the term 'tablet' has been used wrong in the marketplace. A true tablet is a non-ckam shell case computer. I know Panasonic and Viewsonic had one for the corporate world and so did a few other companies, but for some odd reason they never caught on. Then Apple came out with the iPad, called it a tablet and the race was on.
Yup, tablet has been with us for a good decade :D But yes, Apple does what it always does best!!! ;) I wonder what company created the first Tablet and named it such.

Pretty much everything about traditional laptops are out dated. I'm surprised that Apple hasn't released a true tablet running both iOS and OS X. I know at CES there will be several companies showing tablets running win 7 and ICS. Because they do so much more they should squash Android only tablets in the future.

This is the reason I'm thinking that Lenovo didn't push out the Ideapad U1 Hybrid is because win 6 was not refined enough and that was what the OS they demoed in the CES 2010. I believe win 7 allows for better experience and I believe it has the capability for touch response? Apple should have gotten something like this out of the R&D shed...but then both their MAC and iPad lines are pretty hot...so I'm thinking they didn't want to cannibalize their market shares.

:D And the thread has be fully derailed >_>;;;

That would be the Dynabook from (gasp) 1968 :D

Even win 7 leaves much to be desired. I'm sure both MS and Apple are working on something but Apple has much less tweaking that needs to be done. They could probably pull something off now if they wanted to... maybe this is the year they do :)

Being facetious, there Roze? Not sure every iPhone user does what you say because they have already over paid for their iPhone and then they are broke. Smiley.

Yes they overpaid, but that is because they could have got an android phone that is as good as the iPhone 4s for under $100.

:D

Not any more broke than a high end Android device owner ;)

They might be less broke, typical price for a high end android phone on Verizon is now $299 and on AT&T it's $249, iPhone is only $199

Verizon is an ass for not subsidizing the phone more. If you sign a contract for 2/3 years, you shouldn't pay more than 200. Verizon knows that its customers want the latest and greatest and will pay a premium for it. That's why they charge as high as $300 on the newest released phone. That's why I don't use subsidized price as that's carrier driven. It is NOT the worth of your phone. I was actually talking about the unsubsidized price of the phone as that's the price quote from the OEM as to the value of the phone. For the carriers in Canada, the SGS2, Galaxy Nexus and iPhone 4S are priced at $650.

even though verizon has the highest introduction price for phones... they are the ones that give the biggest sales.. with BOGO and drop prices fast...because they know they have you with the higher 2yr contract price.

Sprint.. they never have any sales... prices are very sold.. only lowering the price close to the EOL of each phone.

Though both of them support mobile web and other apps. Android has some advantages over apps since it is more compatible to almost any app on the planet compared to iPhone.

So far, tablets are mostly consumption devices, which means you just receive information from your email, internet; you stream movies or listen to music. For this purpose, the tablet is absolutely a better device than a laptop.

But when it comes to productivity and content creation, the laptop and desktop PC still rules. It's unfair to say traditional laptops (or PCs) are or outdated. What's happening is that a subset of what we used to do with PCs are being captured by a better form factor.

But tablets will never replace laptops or PCs. The touchscreen interface, while fun and innovative, does not provide as much power and control as a traditional keyboard and mouse on the content creation front.

Even Steve Jobs admitted that the reason iTunes is a requirement for iOS is that the PC (and Mac) are better tools for performing more complex functions (like creating playlists, sorting music, etc). He absolutely did not want that kind of functionality on the mobile device because it would make the device too complex from a UI experience perspective.
