The Optimus M's LiIon battery life

I've read around different forums and it seems like there are some specific ways to prolong the battery life when the phone is brand new. I've found these methods interesting such as this one;

"Calibrating the battery - my take:
1. Run the phone until it dies due to lack of power, it won't take long on a new phone
2. With the phone off, charge the phone for one hour past the point that is appears to be full
3. Reboot and repeat steps 1 and 2 a few times
4. You should only have to go through this process once in a while, such as flashing a ROM" ---ardchoille

Are there any methods that have worked for any of you? I'm not talking about apps such as Advanced Task Killer or Juice Defender. I'm talking about charging methods that prolong the battery life of this phone. If you guys would give me your intake on this, that'd be awesome. Thank You.

In general to prolong the life of any battery here are some tips I've learned from trial and error and also experimenting.

  • When charging a device, wait until fully charged before unplugging from power source.
  • When device is in use, wait until battery level is near dead or at most 25% before re-charging.
  • While device is temporarily out of commission (digital/film cameras, flashlights, mp3 players etc...) remove the batteries, this way there is zero amount of electric discharge taking place. **Most devices that need electricity to save a piece of info (time, date, user preferences) will have a backup battery or capacitor with enough reserve to remember these settings for a while.
  • Oh and of course, do not expose device to moisture EVER (unless you have an otterbox ;))

Honestly, I thought battery life was crap too.
It turned out to be the built in MetroPCS garbage apps sucking up battery, their crappy email client, SNS, LG Home launcher.

Try running these apps as your defaults, and don't move em to sdcard.
Go Contacts (replaces contacts and dailer)
Go SMS (replces text messaging app)
K9Mail (disable all other mail clients, remove any accounts. except gmail cause that's tied to other stuff)

And for launcher,
I'm using MetroUI cause it's fast 3D, large buttons, and mimics windows 7 phones. It's a little buggy but faster than Launcher7.
Another good alternative is Go Launcher ex. It's like LauncherPro and AWD Launcher but seems smoother to me, plus it's free.

If you're rooted,
remove a few system apps. just NEVER LG Home. It will screw with reset to factory defaults big time. But MetroNavigator, MocoSpace, Facebook, SNS all that crap can go

My phone boots in 51 secs too, as opposed to almost 2 mins when I first got it.

On averege in a single day I do not run out of battery, and I use my phone constantly. The backlight is on for really long too. I'd say from 11AM to about 2-4AM I'm good depending on usage.
