The Tablet Tavern

Haha, the hotel is pretty drab, but sadly it's the only close to their house, so oh well.
Plus, no coffee maker in the room!?! And they don't have their continental breakfast until 7:30. Hopefully I can go to the main desk and grab a cup before hand though.

Finally got an OTG cable for my nexus 7 and I really don't understand why it doesn't come with one. What a nice accessory to have. This will definitely come in handy when I'm going out and want to watch a movie or just play some tunes while off of WiFi.

80 degrees, 80% humidity here. I'm takikng Evan out for his first ever tee time a bit later. We will probably only doo 2-3 holes, but it will be fun.

Never thought id be complaining about the heat but the past 2 weeks have been unbelievabley hot for ireland. Its supposed to last all summer. :D

Well, we didn't get to golf today, but we still had a great time. Evan had about 2 hours of one on one training on the driving range, pitching, and putting with the golf pros. No way to get us on the course even for a hole or two.

I guess that's what happens when a course that normally costs $95 per for a round opens up a free child's clinic with a free round for anyone golfing with a child.

That's OK, there are a few hack and hit courses around the are far better suited to your learning that we can go to. The big thing is I finally found him left handed youth clubs.

I used to go to the local chip and putt. Those days are long gone, though. My shoulder can't tolerate the swing and my son has a new golfing buddy (his fiancee).

New nexus 7 looks good. Must resist urge not to buy it :D

It's getting hot in XilinHot, probably towards 40C soon. I like wearing nothing when at home, only put clothes on when going out.

Not for me, I'm getting the top model. Wondering, does this come with mobile data? Not seeing it on the play store.

I'm sure there will be a wireless 3G/4G version of it. The Nexus 7 is not actually out yet AFAIK. Probably why not seeing it in the Play store.

I'm going to buy an Apple iPad Mini next week. Mainly for educational purposes for one-to-one students.

Do a lot of your students own iDevices? I looked at the mini just for fun the last time I was in an Apple store and wasn't blown away, or even impressed enough to consider it. For the price an N7 would be much better, IMO.

That will be great. They are really good for education. I would like to see more schools adapt to Android, but that part is on the developers to develop apps for education.

Some of my private students do have iPhones yeh, and I do have a MacBook. I'm almost certain the N7 won't be available in the Mainland. Could probably get one in Hong Kong though. I bought my Samsung phone in HK, because I wanted Google Play and services, without having try and install them myself.

It's the high quality and professionally education apps available for iOS over Android, that makes want to buy the iPad. Some of the Android educational apps are awful, and seem very amateurish. Plus IMO iWork for iOS is better than than any of the current office offerings for Android.

I'm not deserting Android of course :) because the device I still use the most is my Samsung phone, especially as I'm currently out and about a lot.

Apple has always seemed to be a little more dedicated to youth and education. The original idea was "get 'em while they're young and keep them for life." I thought it was a reasonably sound premise, but it doesn't seem to have worked that way.

In reality students graduate and end up in the workplace which is still primarily not Apple and Apple has never been able to crack the enterprise market.

I'm sure that is the case. Seems to me that many professionally written apps intended for educators and academic use are for iOS. Think it's getting better for Android though.

It's because Google is not as strict with their apps, and there's so many devices to make an app for. IOS seems easier to develop for.
