I'm moving away from Google myself, more due to issues such as limited features in their apps or the intentional removal of features with newer versions.

My biggest use of a smart phone/PDA was for calendaring. I started just before y2k with a Compaq Aero running Windows CE 2.x and would keep my calendar as well as my wife's work schedule so I plan things around going to client sites and weekend server maintenance. I still have fewer features in and Android Google calendar than I did back then not to mention the poor performance of having your data in the cloud as you swipe to the next week and wait three minutes for it to download.
My first step so far is working. I have a calDav server on my home server now and was able to sync my whole calendar. Sure I don't need appointments that old but wanted to test it completely. Now I need to put a front end on it and secure it and then expose it to the internet so I can sync via home or outside home and test some more and I can remove my calendar from Google.
There are many calendar servers to choose from and some can use a SQL back end. So I think I can merge back in the data that Google/Android calendars don't support via a couple SQL tables.

I got my controller working with my tablet, and now can use it for games with the SNES emulator too. So when I need an "old school" gaming fix, I don't need to dig out my SNES. I am quite sure my niece and nephew will enjoy playing these games too. :)

Where has BB gone? I haven't seen her post in a while.

I think I'm going to have to switch to decaf for a bit. Getting a bit too stressed and the caffeine ain't helping. :(

BB has probably been kidnapped by mutant rats and is living in the sewers with a renegade band of renaissance turtles, or maybe she has gone into witness protection for her testimony against the Cupertino syndicate. Or, and don't laugh, I know it's far fetched ... maybe she's busy. Okay, I know, that last one was silly.
 
I've decided I want the following bumper sticker on my car.
