The hardware, design and the screen resolution. The 2013 version is so great.
the 2012 version uses a Tegra 3 processor and graphics I believe, and the 2013 uses a Qualacomm Snapdragon Pro 800 processor, its a beast.

I had release day Gen 1 (8GB and 16GB) I smashed my 16GB a year ago and replaced it with a Gen 2 32GB. My 6 yr old son got the 8GB at the same time and managed to go a full year longer than I did without breaking it. Well, he slipped on ice last night and his is smashed. I ordered a replacement Gen 1 32GB with case last night and it will be delivered Monday.

Just got a friendly email from my bank, USAA, letting me know I was hacked into/compromised on my debit card by Target. Yay! 
Should be getting a new one soon. Pretty sure there weren't any charges, but I'll check.

Target is right down the street from me. Easy to hop in on the way home off the bus. A bit bummed about this, but isn't enough a reason to stop shopping there.
