Root The Thunderbolt ROM List (Updated 11/9)

Hey guys just a bit of advice, but if you will post when the list is updated, it will help to let people who don't frequent xda or others forums know that something new is up.

thats true, but doing so will make the thread un-neccesarily long. i dont think theres anything wrong with makin people come to the forum to check it ;) i think most of us are here daily :D

Oh well , I guess I'll just continue to miss stuff.

My lists are updated everyday, sometimes twice a day. I put a lot of time and effort into keeping this thread up to date. I'm pretty sure Scott's are updated frequently as well. I'm not going to take up posts and make this thread longer by adding an "I updated the OP" everyday, it's redundant, IMO. When you go to the OP you will always have a current version/link so you don't have to worry about missing something.

That's great for people who are on here everyday. But it would be nice not to have to check it everday and just get an email notification when something new is added. As for thread length I'm not sure why that even matter as long as people aren't filling the thread with useless posts. Like thesr

Ok, well people who aren't on here frequently generally aren't aware you can get instant email notifications anyways. I understand what you're saying, but as I said this thread is updated everyday, sometimes twice a day or more if need be. Do you really need the email to tell you that something new was added? If the OP of a thread I was following told me it was updated everyday that would be good enough for me.

im sorry you feel this way,but our intentions are not for you to "miss stuff". our intent was a "one stop shop" for the roms, kernels, and mods so yuo dont need to go searching for links.

exactly... if theres a new rom or kernel worm will add it. if theres a new mod,i will add it,and it should be fairly obvious. its well beyond the scope of this thread to keep folks notified of changes within individual threads. as worm said, the links are always current. its the users job to check them out.

IMO we should all be greatful that worm started this thread. again,im sorry its not practical for infrequent users to recieve emails of changes, but it could be worse... this thread could not exist and you would then have to scan the first few pages of xda instead of just 3 posts on one thread.

I think both of you guys are taking this a bit to personally . I was merely offering a suggestion. It's your thread worm. I'll keep things to myself from now on. Sorry if I offended you guys.

im not offended, just trying to explain our position. nothing wrong with making suggestions at all,we in fact appreciate it. but when i explained that we do not really want to do that, you replied with "well i guess ill just miss stuff". i think you perhaps are the one that took it a little personally.

as i said- its not our intention for you to miss stuff. but its just not practical to post every time a change is made. if it helps i will generally add things at the bottom of the post, unless its something of extreme importance(like the security warning) then it will go at the top.

It's whatever you guys want to do, but when a user suggests that you merely type "roms updated" or "new kernels" in a fresh new post that would send instant notification to all who subscribe to the thread and you basically respond with " I don't want to" .....

I'm not taking it personally, I just disagree with your reasoning . But its not my thread so I lose. I don't want to derail your thread any more guys if you want we can continue this via pm if you wish. Sorry again.

I can't speak for Scotty, but you didn't offend me at all and I'm sorry if my posts came off defensive. I just want to try and keep this thread as small and to the point as possible. If I didn't update the thread daily then adding a "I updated the OP, check it out" would be beneficial, but I, personally, would rather have an OP update it daily then have to wait for an "I updated" post. To each his own I guess. Thanks for the suggestion and if this thread continues to grow it will be something I would consider doing. It just isn't a necessity at this point in time

This is an awesome thread and Worm and Scott do a great job updating it daily. If you are really concerned when changes are made, you should def. frequent xda forums more often.

Yes, I'm new to the Droid scene and this is the first phone i've ever modified in any way, but I check this and xda a few times daily for new updates. Well worth it with all the awesome Roms, Kernels & Mods continually coming out and being updated.

I am still learning the ins and out of android with my TB. When you flash a new rom, What happens to the root on your phone? Is it reinstalled with the new rom? Is there a separate area where the root is permanently stored on the TB? Can someone answer this for me?

I know I said I wasn't going to do this, but just wanted to let people know I updated the OP with some of the newer ROMs (Photons, Lotus, etc) and a couple updated Kernels in the 2nd post. The Kernel development going on right now is crazy! TONS of great options so make a backup and try something new, you may like it :D

I more than likely won't be doing these "update" posts that frequently. Just know that if you're looking for a ROM/Kernel it will be in my OP. I spend a lot of time keeping this thread up to date, so people can easily grab what they want when they want it.

Cheers

I have been rooted on my Thunderbolt for a couple of weeks now and i've gotten bored with stock. I don't want to have to try each of the 16 ROMs above...are there like 3 that are obviously better than the others?

I'm using Virus with the blue theme and like it pretty well. I chose it because it is one of two ROMs with the least amount of Sense on it, and it looks really cool. Includes a kernel that can overclock to 1.8 Ghz. Mine is stable up to close to 1.7. I'll keep it until CM7 is released and then I'll be all over that. :D

i like virus alot, but had some issues sending picture messages. keller you should give desensed das_bamf a try :)

I know you asked for top three, but here are the top five, IMO.

BAMF
Virus
TPS
Tesla
Lightning ROM

I haven't personally flashed Tesla or LR, but I have heard great things about both. LR has 4 or 5 different color themes which is always a plus in my book and Tesla is as close to AOSP as we're going to get at this time

i tried tesla, and i liked it alot... but i had the same texting issues i had with virus. i see tesla 1.5 has the stock messaging app back in it "to fix the mms issues" so i may give it another try :)

Yeah, I almost flashed das_bamf, but the themes drew me in to Virus. I may try Tesla since it is maybe even closer to AOSP, which is really what I want.

Chevy tweeted yesterday that he's working on a Gingerbread ROM for Thunderbolt (ie: Simply Stunning for T-Bolt). I will flash that for sure when he gets it done.

is he back to working on it? sweet! you can play with what hes got if you want:
Stock TB ROM has been built - need volunteers!! - Page 18 - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum

just dont turn on wifi IIRC it causes it to go into endles bootloops  i flashed it and it looks incredible for a first attempt and not even having a phone to test.

the black and blue virus theme is sweet. if the text thing worked id have stayed with it for sure. as of now im back on tesla :) text issues seem to be resolved in 1.5 i may stay with it for a few days
