Well, with RS it's been real hit or miss for reserving the phone. Some are being told they can't buy out of contract, while others are told they can. I believe the RS pre-order is only available until the 9th, and may, or may not, be for eligible lines only. Lots of confusion with different things being said throughout RS.
 
I just talked to a buddy of mine who lives in CA and just bought a Droid X on subsidized price and he paid subsidized sales tax. You're getting the run around dude, there is no way that is legal, you should be paying a sales tax + upgrade fee on the $99 you are being charged, not on 450.
 
WOW. YouGotRed, nice find. I can't believe that, that is complete BS and thank god I do not live in cali.

It's been legal since 1999 according to the article posted.

Ok thank you :) I will try calling the one by my house and stopping in at the one by my office tomorrow. This will be my first smartphone and I have been limping along with an LG "NO I didn't want to launch email I just wanted to type the letter Z" Xenon so I am super-excited to get this ASAP!

ETA: I called the RS by my house and the woman said it was no problem for me to go in tomorrow night and pre-order. Yaaaaaay!!! Hopefully I talk to someone with the same info tomorrow night!
 
I spoke to RS today. I was told they only have black phones. They won't be selling the bronze, at least not for the launch.
I did a re-up on my 2 year contract. I am not a new customer. I have been with ATT for years. It is not true that this is for new customers only.
 
If I can't get mine at RS, then I'll wait to see where I can get the best deal, whether it be Amazon or Circuit City or anywhere for that matter.
 
Actually I've seen a CC store recently, so I'm not sure, but yeah, they closed most/all of their stores and they are only online, but I've seen some good prices from them.
 
Circuit city filed for bankruptcy and went out of business a few years back. Any buildings still standing weren't able to be sold for liquidation. The name, however, was bought (don't remember by which company), and is still used for online retailing. Good service too. Decent prices.
 
I decided to just head over to my RS since they are open till 9. No problems pre-ordering and I pick up Sunday morning. (I am upgrading, eligible this Friday)

Good to hear. You made a solid choice going with HTC, and sticking with ATT for that matter lol

Let us know how you like it this upcoming weeks, especially considering you have no previous smartphone to compare it to I'm curious to see just how amazing you think it is ;)
 
Hey guys, this is interesting... I went to RS on Tues night (Feb 8) and did the pre-order for the Inspire, off-contract, $450. The guy told me I was the first one to pre-order so far.

So I asked "when does it come in?" and he told me that they were getting it early, on Thursday, Feb. 10th!! :D

I hope that's right... I will be calling them on Thurs afternoon to see if I can pick it up. Will be awesome if this is true!

Has anyone else asked about pick-up dates at RS?

I never asked. They asked me when I'd be in to get it (they only hold it for like 3 days), but I do plan on going over and "checking up" on my order...just in case :p
 
They may (since the mail isnt delivered on sunday). However, retailers take risk in selling things early. Same thing with video games. You would have to be in with the manager or something.
 
I read somewhere that someone pre-ordered their phone and the manager told them they may get the phones in 1-2 days early.

If the phones are street dated, I wouldn't put much stock in it. If they sell early, that is against policy, and can be fined and terminated. If they are reckless or unconcerned about it, it's possible. It's happened plenty of times before. Maybe someone will get lucky!
 
The RS sales guy told me they were "getting them early" because of the Verizon iPhone launch on the 10th... who knows, could be true, guess I'll just have to wait until Thurs and see! :cool:

Also, this was kind of a "ghetto" RS that I went to, lol... It didn't seem like the 2 employees working there really cared about or understood any rules about picking up the phone early ;)

Trying not get my hopes up too high, but would really be nice if I can get the Inspire a few days early!
