The unofficial "I reserved @ Radio Shack" Thread

The girl who helped me out last night filled out this form and asked if I knew if I'd be in Sun/Mon/Tues (UH SUNDAY YES PLEASE) and then asked if I'd be in morning/afternoon/evening and wrote it all down on the form so I doubt they'll sell it to me early. But I still have a tiny bit of hope. 4 more sleeps till I finally get on board the smartphone wagon!

i just reserved mine off contract as well and filled out the same paperwork on when im picking up.. Sunday 10 am Please!.... $50 gift certificate. I think i was the only pre-order.

Circuit city filed for bankruptcy and went out of business a few years back. Any buildings still standing weren't able to be sold for liquidation. The name, however, was bought (don't remember by which company), and is still used for online retailing. Good service too. Decent prices.

TigerDirect, they also bought CompUSA and a few other old electronic retailers. They're just an online retailer similar to Newegg.

Well I finally got to the Shack today to reserve my phone. While there I asked about when the phones are expected in, the salesmen told me they should be receiving them tomorrow (Friday, Feb 11th). I plan on calling to make sure the shipment was in fact received so if I need to make alternate plans on Sunday to pick up my phone I can.

I just talked to a buddy of mine who lives in CA and just bought a Droid X on subsidized price and he paid subsidized sales tax. You're getting the run around dude, there is no way that is legal, you should be paying a sales tax + upgrade fee on the $99 you are being charged, not on 450.

yeah its a ridiculous law california passed...phones must be taxed on the full retail cost of the phone...

basically

iphone 4 = $265.10, not $200

I know most of us are planning on using the $10 off $40 Radio Shack coupon in combination with the $30 accessory credit. But I'm wondering, can we use the coupon towards the purchase of the phone? I'm not sure if I'm going to be spending $40 or more on accessories. I tend to only buy a screen protector whenever I buy a new phone, which costs only $10 at AT&T.

i asked that same question this morning at my local store, and she couldn't confirm, but doubted it.

I thought about a car charger, but then I wondered if the phone would charge via the usb connector in my car. Might do MicroSD instead.

I am pretty sure the extra $10 can not be used towards the phone. It sucks you have to spend $40 to use the $10. You pretty much have to buy 2 accessories. I will probably grab a case and some sort of screen protector.

I might go with a MicroSD, but I have a bunch laying around, so it's not really needed.

As for a case, I'm not a big fan of cases on phones. For a person who drops their phones a lot, I understand the need. But personally, I'm okay without one and prefer the case-less look. Plus, docks/mounts are typically designed to fit a case-less device. Not only that, but I don't really expect Radio Shack to be carrying any decent cases.

As for a car charger, I use the iGo charger. So I only need to buy a tip whenever I buy a new phone. Although, all my devices that charge via micro USB port have shared the same tip. I'm assuming the Inspire will probably also use the same tip since the Aria and Desire HD both use it.

Yep same tip

I wouldn't buy anything mass-made at RS like a MicroSD card. You can get like a $16 MicroSD card on Amazon for $25 with free shipping. I would buy like an otterbox case or something else that doesn't have many discounts anywhere.

A 16gb I take it? definitely wouldn't be good to get a $16 card for $25. :p

When I pre-ordered at RS a few days ago, the clerk told me they'd be getting in the Inspire on 2/10 (early) to counter the Verizon iPhone launch... I took it with a grain of salt and tried not to get my hopes up too high... but it was tough. ;) (Yes, I know the official release date is actually 2/13. )The RS is only 10 min away, so I stopped in on Thurs night to see if they had the phone and was told something else.

I don't get it... I've talked to 3 different workers at RS this week and have been told 3 different things:

Guy #1 - Had no idea what the Inspire 4G pre-order deal was, and no clue what I was talking about.

Guy #2 - Told me they'd get the phone "early" on the 10th and that I could pick up then. He was also kind of unsure on how to ring up the pre-sale on the register.

Guy #3 - checked the inventory and they did NOT have the phone in stock yet as of 2/10. He told me the Inspire does not come out until 2/13 (correct!) and that they would not have it in the store until 2/13. Hmm, I can't see a delivery truck rolling up to RS at 9am on a Sunday morning, lol, but at least this guy seemed to get it partially right.

I'm still determined to get this phone before 2/13, haha... ;)

But anyways, why is it that both the RS and AT&T salespeople are so freakin' clueless about the Inspire launch (pricing, data plans, dates, etc)?? Seems like this is the way with every new phone launch... Went through the same BS and misinformation game when I got the Nexus-S and Galaxy Tab. Don't they realize what this does to us Android geeks?? ;)

I'm gonna try to hit up RS again on Friday night, lol.

Btw, was just looking at my pre-order receipt... says nothing about the 2/13 date. But it does say this:

"When the store listed above receives your order, the store team will attempt to contact you"

and.. "A handset will will be held for you at this store for [up to] 3 days after arrival in the store"

So, technically, whenever the store gets it in stock, you can pick it up.

Anybody remember a very early Simpsons episode where Bart annoys the mail-lady with daily "Where's my spy camera?"

I'm starting to feel that way the closer we get to release day.

"Here's your stupid spy camera!!"
"Whoa, thanks, man!"

The 3rd party retailer "parrot cellular" off of West Camino Real has them in stock right now (I just checked)(not for sale until sunday) and they do good work there.

Best buy in santana row would probably be a good place to look as well

-oh yeah I go to school in sunnyvale :P

Called my RS and checked on my pre-order. Manager said they got 14 in today. Asked if I could come get it and he said he was sorry, but they wouldn't let him sell them until Sunday. :(

I just got a scare, I called the RS I pre-ordered my Inspire from asking if they received their shipment and was told I pre-ordered on 2/10/11 and they stopped taking pre-orders on 2/9/11. The end result was they did not receive any phones. However I was told they were going to call around and locate a phone for me. I just received a call from them saying they found a phone and it will be at their store tomorrow night ready for pickup first thing Sunday morning.

I just called my local radio shack to see if they were still doing presales. I was told that they stopped doing presales on 2/9. But, she said they had already received 4 Inspires and asked if I wanted to reserve one. (I guess this is different then their presale). She took all of my info over the phone, asked what time I would be coming in on Sunday, and said that 1 Inspire was being held for me for Sunday.

Two things I took away from the convo. 1. This radioshack has already received a shipment; and 2. It does not sound like there is a big demand at that store. Both things are good for me!
